Philosophy:
I view a person's functioning through a psychoanalytic lens, but do meet people where they are psychologically, when they arrive in my office. In the context of a trusting, confidential therapeutic relationship, we work on identifying strengths and fortifying them, identifying themes and patterns of behavior and making them conscious in order to make the choice to change them. An important goal in improving one's life is to be able to accurately observe oneself and gradually modify distorted perceptions of others and the world around us. When working with couples, the ability to take responsibility for one's own contributions to the problems is the key to making steps forward in communication and improving the relationship. When working with families and adolescents, it is my job to get a picture of the dynamics; how each affects the others. I work with various combinations of the family depending upon the my assessment and the family's needs.
