Method And Apparatus For Creating A Radio Frequency Filter

US Patent:
6768398, Jul 27, 2004
Filed:
Dec 12, 2001
Appl. No.:
10/021636
Inventors:
Gilberto Jacinto Hernandez - Miami FL
Douglas Harold Weisman - Sunrise FL
Assignee:
Motorola, Inc. - Schaumburg IL
International Classification:
H01P 1203
US Classification:
333204, 333202, 333 34
Abstract:
A transmission line ( ) is formed to have a characteristic impedance which increases at a first substantially exponential rate with respect to a distance from the input ( ). A plurality of resonators ( ) are coupled to the transmission line and positioned at a plurality of locations along the transmission line. The plurality of resonators has resonant frequencies that decrease at a second substantially exponential rate with respect to the distance from the input. An output signal ( ) is obtained at a point in the filter that produces a filter response having a corner frequency.

Tunable Bridged-T Filter

US Patent:
6441701, Aug 27, 2002
Filed:
Sep 22, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/405099
Inventors:
Gilberto J. Hernandez - Miami FL
Assignee:
Motorola, Inc. - Schaumburg IL
International Classification:
H03H 701
US Classification:
333171, 333174, 333175
Abstract:
A tunable filter ( ) includes first ( ) and second ( ) “bridged-T” resonators. The first ( ) and second ( ) resonators are capacitively coupled together via bandwidth control/coupling section ( ). A biasing section ( ) provides the proper biasing and decoupling for the filter ( ). Filter ( ) provides for low-side injection mode operation, and provides for a very deep zero on the lower side of the passband resulting in excellent selectivity. Filter ( ) provides for excellent selectivity while reducing the number of inductors and varactors needed in the filter circuit. A high side injection mode filter ( ) similar to filter ( ) is also described in the disclosure.

Electrically Tunable Band Pass Filter With Symmetrical Low-Side And High-Side Protection

US Patent:
6097269, Aug 1, 2000
Filed:
Feb 1, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/241667
Inventors:
Gilberto J. Hernandez - Miami FL
Assignee:
Motorola, Inc. - Schaumburg IL
International Classification:
H03H 701
US Classification:
333174
Abstract:
A tunable filter (400) provides dual injection mode operation over a continuously tunable frequency range (500). A combination of mirrored series resonant circuits (432, 446) tuned through varactors (434, 448) allows the frequency response to shift. The use of a series capacitor and shunted inductor (430, 428), (444, 442) mirrored onto each series resonator (432, 446) provides both high-side and low-side injection protection.

Tunable Bridged-T Filter

US Patent:
2002018, Dec 5, 2002
Filed:
Jul 8, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/191266
Inventors:
Gilberto Hernandez - Miami FL, US
International Classification:
H03H007/01
US Classification:
333/174000, 333/170000
Abstract:
A tunable filter () includes first () and second () “bridged-T” resonators. The first () and second () resonators are capacitively coupled together via bandwidth control/coupling section (). A biasing section () provides the proper biasing and decoupling for the filter (). Filter () provides for low-side injection mode operation, and provides for a very deep zero on the lower side of the passband resulting in excellent selectivity. Filter () provides for excellent selectivity while reducing the number of inductors and varactors needed in the filter circuit. A high side injection mode filter () similar to filter () is also described in the disclosure.

Method And Apparatus For A Communications Filter

US Patent:
7417517, Aug 26, 2008
Filed:
Jul 13, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/457238
Inventors:
Gilberto J. Hernandez - Miami FL, US
Douglas H. Weisman - Sunrise FL, US
Assignee:
Motorola, Inc. - Schaumburg IL
International Classification:
H01P 1/20
US Classification:
333204, 333 34, 333202
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for a highpass filter structure using transmission line construction which has multiple output tabs for selection of corner frequencies utilizing a plurality of resonators coupled to the transmission line. The transmission line has a characteristic impedance which increases exponentially with respect to a distance from the input.
