Flow Cytometer Measurement Of Binding Assays

US Patent:
4665020, May 12, 1987
Filed:
May 30, 1984
Appl. No.:
6/615486
Inventors:
George C. Saunders - Espanola NM
Assignee:
United States Department of Energy - Washington DC
International Classification:
G01N 3353, G01N 33543, G01N 33544, G01N 33546
US Classification:
435 7
Abstract:
A method of measuring the result of a binding assay that does not require separation of fluorescent smaller particles is disclosed. In a competitive binding assay the smaller fluorescent particles coated with antigen compete with antigen in the sample being analyzed for available binding sites on larger particles. In a sandwich assay, the smaller, fluorescent spheres coated with antibody attach themselves to molecules containing antigen that are attached to larger spheres coated with the same antibody. The separation of unattached, fluorescent smaller particles is made unnecessary by only counting the fluorescent events triggered by the laser of a flow cytometer when the event is caused by a particle with a light scatter measurement within a certain range corresponding to the presence of larger particles.

Compact Air Scrubber

US Patent:
5085673, Feb 4, 1992
Filed:
Mar 19, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/671330
Inventors:
Bill F. Bentley - Santa Fe NM
James H. Jett - Los Alamos NM
John C. Martin - Los Alamos NM
George C. Saunders - Espanola NM
Assignee:
The United States of America as represented by the United States
Department of Energy - Washington DC
International Classification:
B03C 300
US Classification:
55 10
Abstract:
Method and apparatus for removing material from a gas. A mist created by a piezoelectric ultrasonic transducer is contacted with the gas and both gas and mist are passed through baffled separators. Liquid effluent from the separators contains solid material removed from the gas and gaseous material which reacted with the liquid or was absorbed by the liquid. The invention is useful for collecting a sample of material in a gas, such as a vapor in the atmosphere, and in cleaning a gas. A relatively concentrated solution of a material present in a gas in a very small concentration can be obtained.

Fingerprint Detection

US Patent:
5079029, Jan 7, 1992
Filed:
Jun 16, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/366951
Inventors:
George C. Saunders - Espanola NM
International Classification:
A61B 5117
US Classification:
427 1
Abstract:
A method for detection and visualization of latent fingerprints is provided and includes contacting a substrate containing a latent print thereon with a colloidal metal composition for time sufficient to allow reaction of said colloidal metal composition with said latent print, and preserving or recording the observable print. Further, the method for detection and visualization of latent fingerprints can include contacting the metal composition-latent print reaction product with a secondary metal-containing solution for time sufficient to allow precipitation of said secondary metal thereby enhancing the visibility of the latent print, and preserving or recording the observable print.
