Low Friction Wire Guide For Electrical Discharge Machine

Low Friction Wire Guide For Electrical Discharge Machine

US Patent:
4896012, Jan 23, 1990
Filed:
Apr 3, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/331867
Inventors:
George Barbulescu - Ann Arbor MI
Assignee:
Raycon Corporation - Ann Arbor MI
International Classification:
B23H 710, B23H 914
US Classification:
219 6912
Abstract:
A wire guide for a servo driven wire electrode in an electrical discharge machine (EDM) has inserts defining a precision guide slot for the electrode. The inserts are coated with a low friction coating to smooth the servo drive of the wire electrode through the wire guide so as to improve spark gap erosion produced between a tip portion of the electrode and a workpiece.

Wire Guide For Electric Discharge Machine

Wire Guide For Electric Discharge Machine

US Patent:
4782203, Nov 1, 1988
Filed:
Apr 16, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/039065
Inventors:
John M. Check - Chelsea MI
Myron Johnson - Freeland MI
George Barbulescu - Ann Arbor MI
Assignee:
Raycon Textron Inc. - Ann Arbor MI
International Classification:
B23H 100, B23H 710
US Classification:
219 69E
Abstract:
A wire guide directs a wire electrode from a refeed mechanism in an electrical discharge machine EDM to a workpiece. The wire guide has ceramic inserts defining a precision guide slot for the electrode and wherein one of the inserts is carried by a deflectable member spring biased to damp the electrode so as to maintain concentricity of holes formed by the electrode and thereby closely control the hole diameter.

Floating Cover Electrode Guide System For Electric Discharge Machining

Floating Cover Electrode Guide System For Electric Discharge Machining

US Patent:
5951883, Sep 14, 1999
Filed:
Jul 31, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/904479
Inventors:
George Barbulescu - Ann Arbor MI
Assignee:
Ann Arbor Machine Company - Chelsea MI
International Classification:
B23H 726, B23H 914
US Classification:
219 6915
Abstract:
A micro EDM servo-head is disclosed which includes a servo, a lead screw, a carriage block engaging the lead screw, a support block, a contact block secured to the carriage block, and an electrode guide system coupled to the support block for controlling the position of the electrode of an EDM apparatus to which the micro EDM servo head is attached. The electrode guide system includes an electrode guide bottom having a longitudinal groove, and a floating guide cover which is biased toward the electrode guide bottom such that the electrode is forced into the groove and the position is controlled by forcing the electrode into the groove.

Electrical Discharge Machine Apparatus With Improved Dielectric Flushing

Electrical Discharge Machine Apparatus With Improved Dielectric Flushing

US Patent:
6734384, May 11, 2004
Filed:
Aug 10, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/216264
Inventors:
George Barbulescu - Ann Arbor MI
Assignee:
Ann Arbor Machine Company - Chelsea MI
International Classification:
B23H 110
US Classification:
219 6914, 219 692
Abstract:
An electrical discharge machining system for machining a workpiece. The system comprises a wire guide support for positioning and guiding a wire electrode into a desired position relative to the workpiece and a source of a liquid dielectric fluid. The supply also provides means for directing the dielectric fluid from the source to a machining site between the electrode and the workpiece, and for atomizing the dielectric fluid in the machining site.

Side Bore Electrode Retention Device For Electric Discharge Machining

Side Bore Electrode Retention Device For Electric Discharge Machining

US Patent:
5908563, Jun 1, 1999
Filed:
Aug 18, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/912265
Inventors:
George Barbulescu - Ann Arbor MI
Assignee:
Ann Arbor Machine Company - Chelsea MI
International Classification:
B23H 100, B23H 726
US Classification:
219 6915
Abstract:
An electric discharge machine side bore head used for machining in a generally transverse direction within a cavity formed in a workpiece. The head retaining an electrode having a primary axis oriented generally perpendicular to the surface which is to be machined. The side bore head includes an electrode holder, an electric contact providing electric current to the electrode holder, and a device for releasably retaining the electrode near one end of the electrode holder. The primary axis of the electrode is oriented generally perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the electrode holder.
