Method And Apparatus For Creating Design Insulated Glass

Method And Apparatus For Creating Design Insulated Glass

US Patent:
5333428, Aug 2, 1994
Filed:
Oct 28, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/967584
Inventors:
George S. Taylor - Salt Lake City UT
Barry Benedict - Salt Lake City UT
Assignee:
Big Unlimited - Salt Lake City UT
International Classification:
E04C 142
US Classification:
52308
Abstract:
Method and apparatus for providing an I. G. unit comprising at least two lites and a spandrel comprising a single lite for use in building construction, and especially for use as part of a building facing. At least one of the lites of the I. G. unit comprises a plurality of glass sections joined by at least one interposed joining member. Each I. G. unit is hermetically sealed and comprises a strength against wind load, atmospheric pressure changes, and other window stressing environmental factors which may be greater than a like sized, conventionally constructed I. G. unit. Each spandrel comprises a lite of similar appearance, construction, and strength against wind load to that of a lite for the I. G. unit whereby mechanical workings of the building between windows are concealed with lites of the spandrels providing substantially the same appearance and patterns as those provided by I. G. units on the visual areas of the building.

Method And Apparatus For Mechanized Application Of A Protective Coating On Siliceous Surfaces

Method And Apparatus For Mechanized Application Of A Protective Coating On Siliceous Surfaces

US Patent:
6103307, Aug 15, 2000
Filed:
Apr 13, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/059186
Inventors:
George S. Taylor - Salt Lake City UT
Joel S. Miller - Salt Lake City UT
Assignee:
Diamond Seal, Inc. - Salt Lake City UT
International Classification:
B05D 102
US Classification:
427336
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for applying a coating composition of an alkyl alkoxy silane reacted with a vitreous or siliceous substrate under automation is disclosed. The coating provides water repellence, durability and ease of cleaning to glass or other siliceous surfaces. The coating is formed by applying an excess of an alkoxy solution to a substrate followed by removal of excess solution following reaction of the solution to form a monolayer on the substrate. The apparatus of the invention is an automation conveyor system which facilitates formation of a monolayer of coating composition and removal of excess composition to provide a transparent coating on the substrate at a rate of speed exceeding manual application.

Glass Coating Composition And Method Of Application

Glass Coating Composition And Method Of Application

US Patent:
5738903, Apr 14, 1998
Filed:
Feb 27, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/807664
Inventors:
George S. Taylor - Salt Lake City UT
Joel S. Miller - Salt Lake City UT
Assignee:
Diamond Seal, Inc. - Salt Lake City UT
International Classification:
B05D 312
US Classification:
427 8
Abstract:
A coating composition of an alkyl alkoxy silane reacted with the surface of a glass substrate is disclosed. The coating provides water repellency, durability and ease of cleaning to a glass or other siliceous surface. The coating is formed by applying an excess of an alkoxy solution containing sulfide acid to a glass surface. After a continuous film of the alkoxy solution has reacted with the glass substrate to cover completely a surface of the substrate, the excess solution is removed. Failure to remove the excess solution immediately upon the formation of the reacted film results in the formation of a greasy, deleterious film which is difficult to remove. Proper removal of the excess coating solution provides a transparent reacted film which protects the substrate. A method for determining the appropriate end point for removing excess solution is disclosed.

Glass Coating Cmposition And Method Of Application

US Patent:
5759618, Jun 2, 1998
Filed:
Feb 27, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/807172
Inventors:
George S. Taylor - Salt Lake City UT
Assignee:
Diamond Seal, Inc. - Salt Lake City UT
International Classification:
B32B 3500, B05D 506, B05D 310
US Classification:
427140
Abstract:
A coating composition of an alkoxy silane reacted with the surface of a glass substrate and a cleaning composition and method for cleaning said glass area is disclosed. The coating provides water repellency, durability and ease of cleaning to a glass or other siliceous surface. The coating is formed by applying an excess of an alkoxy solution containing a sulfuric acid to a glass surface with an excess of solution being applied. Preparatory to such coating application, the glass, especially if its surface is a weathered (non-virgin) surface, is cleaned vigorously with a cleaning solution containing water, phosphoric acid, hydrofluoric acid and sulfuric acid.
