Philosophy:
None of us learn from getting things right; it is from the mistakes of ours or those near us that we find real growth. The only problem with this is that it is too easy to fail to learn or to blame others when we try to do this by ourself. That is where a good therapist plays an invaluable role.
For many years I have waited for someone to enter my office and say: "Dr. Johnson, things are good in my life; I'd just like to make things better." Inevitably, people come to me because something has gone wrong, because they are in pain, or because their established ways of living are no longer working. It is through understanding how the old patterns for an individual or for a couple are failing, and through finding the creativity and courage to act in new ways, that healing happens.
