US Patent:
6476595, Nov 5, 2002
Filed:
Jan 26, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/490992
Inventors:
Peter W. Heuell - Raleigh NC
Garry M. Loy - Raleigh NC
Russell C. Broome - Garner NC
Lars Anders Lindqvist - Nykoping, SE
Assignee:
ABB Automation Inc. - Wickliffe OH
International Classification:
G01R 1132
US Classification:
324142
Abstract:
An electronic energy meter and its package is described in which the meter package has a reduced number of parts, and the main circuit board assembly has the metering electronics on board, thereby eliminating the need for flying leads and point-to-point wiring within the package. The energy meter includes a first enclosure portion, a circuit board assembly for performing metering functions, a partial terminal block, and a second enclosure portion. The first and second enclosure portions are mateable with each other to form a meter package, in which the circuit board assembly and partial terminal block are at least partially contained within the meter package.

Dec 23, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/342199
Inventors:
Garry M. Loy - Raleigh NC, US
Rodney C. Hemminger - Raleigh NC, US
Robert Fuller - West Bend WI, US
Assignee:
Elster Electricity, LLC - Raleigh NC
International Classification:
G01R 1/04, H02B 1/00
US Classification:
361659, 361661, 361664, 361667, 324142
Abstract:
An electric meter comprises an electronics housing and a meter base. The electronics housing defines a front panel and includes a first plurality of option board guides. A main meter board is disposed substantially parallel to the front panel. The meter base defines a rear panel of the electric meter. The meter base includes a plurality of housing guides for receiving the electronics housing and a second plurality of option board guides disposed substantially perpendicularly to the rear panel. The second plurality of option board guides are adapted to receive an option board and to position the option board substantially perpendicularly to the main meter board of the electronics housing during assembly of the electronics housing to the meter base. The housing guides in combination with the first and second pluralities of option board guides enable blind assembly of the electronics housing to the meter base.

Mechanical Packaging And Method For A Single Current Sensor Integrated Into An Electricity Meter With A Disconnect Switch

US Patent:
8564280, Oct 22, 2013
Filed:
Jan 31, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/017619
Inventors:
Garry M. Loy - Raleigh NC, US
Assignee:
Elster Solutions, LLC - Raleigh NC
International Classification:
G01R 1/20, G01R 11/32, G01R 1/38, H02B 1/00
US Classification:
324150, 324142, 324115, 324146, 361668, 361659
Abstract:
An electricity meter comprises a single current sensor with a toroidal coil that has an inner bore extending substantially through the sensor. The meter also has two current conductors that form one of a pair of line-side blades of the meter. The electricity meter also has a disconnect switch with a pair of moveable contacts and a pair of fixed contacts. One of the pairs contacts is electrically connected to the current conductors. The other pair forms a respective load-side blade of the meter. One current conductor passes through the inner bore of the current sensor in a first direction relative to its line-side blade and the other current conductor passes through the inner bore of the current sensor in a substantially opposite direction relative to its line-side blade so that current passing through the conductors passes through the inner bore of the current sensor in a same direction.

Apparatus And Method For Drilling Glass

Apparatus And Method For Drilling Glass

US Patent:
5116169, May 26, 1992
Filed:
Mar 1, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/663408
Inventors:
Garry M. Loy - Raleigh NC
Assignee:
ABB Power T&D Company, Inc. - Blue Bell PA
International Classification:
B23B 3922
US Classification:
408 39
Abstract:
An apparatus and method are provided for drilling thin-walled glass articles. The apparatus is comprised of a drilling machine having upper and lower triangulated arm assemblies to which opposing drills are attached. The arm assemblies pivot about a common shaft. The shaft is supported by a support assembly attached to a sliding table. First and second actuators mounted on the support assembly urge the arm assemblies to pivot about the shaft, thereby controlling the feed rate and stroke of the drills. In a second embodiment adapted to drill deep glass articles, the lower arm assembly has an intermediate frame which pivots about an upper shaft along with the upper arm assembly. The lower arm assembly also has a lower arm which pivots about a lower shaft under the urging of a third actuator, allowing the drill spindle attached to the lower arm to enter and withdraw from the deep article without scratching the sides of the article.

Filed:
Jun 21, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/872939
Inventors:
Garry Loy - Raleigh NC, US
Lars Lindqvist - Apex NC, US
International Classification:
B29B013/00
US Classification:
264/271100
Abstract:
A preferred process comprises providing a pre-formed, substantially transparent window for a cover of an electrical-energy meter, and molding the cover from a molten resin that, when solidified, is substantially opaque. Molding the cover from a molten resin comprises causing a portion of the molten resin to contact a periphery of the window and allowing the portion of the molten resin to cool and thereby solidify so that the portion of the molten resin, upon solidifying, is molded over the periphery of the window and thereby seals and secures the window to the cover.
