Method And Apparatus For Connecting A Building Panel To A Foundation

Method And Apparatus For Connecting A Building Panel To A Foundation

US Patent:
6397536, Jun 4, 2002
Filed:
Jul 7, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/612366
Inventors:
Frederick Morello - Johnstown PA
Assignee:
MIC Industries - Reston VA
International Classification:
E02D 1900
US Classification:
52274, 522931, 52294
Abstract:
The present invention is a method and apparatus for improving the connection between a building panel and a foundation. The improved connection is made possible by a unique form assembly that includes a trough assembly and a novel means for adequately supporting the trough assembly while the concrete is poured. The trough assembly creates a trough, which is an elongated hollow notch at the top of the foundation that resembles the shape of the trough assembly. Thus, the trough assembly is designed such that its width is approximately equal to the width of the building panel. The trough assembly also includes an angle iron affixed to the top of its sides. The trough assembly provides the building panel an elongated hollow groove having angle irons on each side. The prefabricated panel is therefor affixed to the angle irons. Placing the prefabricated panel in the foundation in such a manner and affixing it to the angle irons provides the panel with improved lateral and horizontal support.

Curved Building Panel, Building Structure, Panel Curving System And Methods For Making Curved Building Panels

US Patent:
2012013, May 31, 2012
Filed:
Feb 7, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/367934
Inventors:
Todd E. Anderson - Duncansville PA, US
Frederick Morello - Johnstown PA, US
Assignee:
M.I.C. Industries. Inc. - Reston VA
International Classification:
E04C 2/38, E04C 2/30
US Classification:
525881, 52578
Abstract:
A building panel formed from sheet material extends in a longitudinal direction along its length and includes a curved center portion in cross section, a pair of side portions extending from the curved center portion, and a pair of connecting portions extending from the side portions. The curved center portion includes a plurality segments extending in the longitudinal direction. The panel is curved in the longitudinal direction without having transverse corrugations. A particular segment may have a depth greater than that of another segment to accommodate the longitudinal curve. A system for longitudinally curving the panel includes first and second curving assemblies, each of which includes multiple rollers arranged to contact the panel as it passes along, a positioning mechanism for changing a relative rotational orientation between the first and second curving assemblies, a drive system for moving the panel longitudinally, and a control system for controlling the positioning mechanism.

Microprocessor Controlled Apparatus And Method For Forming Metal Building Panels

Microprocessor Controlled Apparatus And Method For Forming Metal Building Panels

US Patent:
5359871, Nov 1, 1994
Filed:
Apr 30, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/054135
Inventors:
Frederick Morello - Johnstown PA
Assignee:
M.I.C. Industries, Inc. - Reston VA
International Classification:
B21D 1304, B21D 5300
US Classification:
72 7
Abstract:
A microprocessor controlled apparatus and method for processing sheet material into building panels for assembly into buildings. The sheet material is formed into a panel having a flat bottom and sides while the length of the formed panel is monitored to control operation of the forming device. The panel is then fed into a curve-forming device which crimps at least a portion of the panel so that it is arched or curved. The curvature of the output panel is monitored to control the location of adjustable crimper rollers disposed in the curve-forming device to provide the portion of the panel with an accurate preselected curvature. The length of the curved portion of the panel is monitored when producing panels having both straight and curved portions, and the crimper rollers automatically reset to form portions with a different radius of curvature. Predetermined panel designs can be stored in a database and the microprocessor can control the apparatus to automatically produce such panel designs upon the input of appropriate data.

Systems And Methods For Making Panels From Sheet Material Using Adaptive Control

Systems And Methods For Making Panels From Sheet Material Using Adaptive Control

US Patent:
2012032, Dec 20, 2012
Filed:
Jun 14, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/159752
Inventors:
Todd E. Anderson - Duncansville PA, US
Frederick Morello - Johnstown PA, US
Assignee:
M.I.C. Industries, Inc. - Reston VA
International Classification:
G06F 1/32, G05D 7/06, G05D 16/20, G05D 13/62
US Classification:
700108
Abstract:
A system for forming a building panel of a desired shape includes a shaping machine comprising multiple rollers, wherein the shaping machine is configured to provide a desired shape to a building panel, and wherein the building panel is made from sheet material. A drive system moves the building panel longitudinally along the shaping machine, and a power source provides power to the drive system. As the building panel is moved along the shaping machine, a load sensor detects a load placed on the power source, and an optional speed sensor detects a speed of the building panel. A control system controls the drive system in response to a signal from the load sensor so as to control the load on the power source as the building panel moves along the shaping machine.
