Radial Flow Electrofilter

US Patent:
4269681, May 26, 1981
Filed:
Oct 16, 1979
Appl. No.:
6/085448
Inventors:
Frederick D. Watson - Houston TX
Weldon D. Mayse - Houston TX
Albert D. Franse - Houston TX
Assignee:
Petrolite Corporation - St. Louis MO
International Classification:
B03C 500
US Classification:
204188
Abstract:
A radial flow electrofilter having a vertical cylindrical fluid distributor means adapted to serve as a grounded electrode, a vertical central tubular collector also adapted to serve as an electrode and at least one, preferably a plural odd number, of permeable cylindrical electrodes concentrically positioned between the distributor and the collector. The filter medium preferably consists of non-deformable particles, the filter being provided with backflushing means. In operation, finely divided solids, contained in a liquid of low conductivity, may be efficiently removed by passing the liquid radially through the filter, while subjected to a unidirectional current electric field, from the periphery of the filter toward its center.

Apparatus And Process For Electrically Resolving Emulsions

US Patent:
4226689, Oct 7, 1980
Filed:
May 29, 1979
Appl. No.:
6/043551
Inventors:
Weldon D. Mayse - Houston TX
Frederick D. Watson - Houston TX
Assignee:
Petrolite Corporation - St. Louis MO
International Classification:
B03C 500, C10G 3302
US Classification:
204188
Abstract:
An electric treater and process for electrically resolving emulsions into organic and aqueous phases. The treater includes a horizontally positioned, planar, permeable electrode which is the only electrode means positioned in the treater. The interface between the bodies of organic and aqueous material which collect in the treater is kept at a position intermediate the electrode and a distributor means for introducing emulsion into the treater. The emulsion is resolved at the water surface, which serves as a grounded electrode.

Fluid Inlet Distributor

US Patent:
4609010, Sep 2, 1986
Filed:
Sep 15, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/187279
Inventors:
Frederick D. Watson - Houston TX
Assignee:
Petrolite Corporation - St. Louis MO
International Classification:
F16K 2400
US Classification:
137587
Abstract:
A fluid inlet distributor for a fluid treating vessel, comprising a chamber, preferably horizontally elongated, provided with at least one horizontal row of orifices along one longitudinal side, fluid inlet means, and at least one conduit, open at its bottom end, communicating with the chamber and extending downwardly therefrom. The chamber is otherwise closed. The distributor is useful for uniform feeding of an incoming fluid for horizontal flow in a fluid treating vessel.

Radial Flow Electrofilter

US Patent:
4302310, Nov 24, 1981
Filed:
Oct 16, 1979
Appl. No.:
6/085367
Inventors:
Frederick D. Watson - Houston TX
Weldon D. Mayse - Houston TX
Albert D. Franse - Houston TX
Assignee:
Petrolite Corporation - St. Louis MO
International Classification:
B03C 500, B03C 502
US Classification:
204186
Abstract:
A radial flow electrofilter having a plurality of parallel planar horizontal electrodes. The filter may be provided with backflush means, in which case the filter medium preferably consists of non-deformable particles, or else a removable filter pack, preferably employing polyurethane foam, may be employed. In operation, finely divided solids, contained in a liquid of low electrical conductivity, may be efficiently removed by passing the liquid radially through the filter, while subjected to a unidirectional current electric field, from the periphery of the filter toward its center.
