Abstract:
In an electrostatographic recording member comprising at least: (1) an electrically-insulating substrate; (2) an electrically-conductive intermediate layer overlying a first surface of said substrate; and (3) an electrically-insulating outer layer overlying said conductive layer, said outer layer containing a photoconductive material or being composed of a dielectric material of high volume resistivity; The improvement comprising a combined means for accurately positioning said recording member during imaging thereof and for establishing an electrical ground connection to said intermediate conductive layer, said combined means comprising at least two separate holes through said recording member in a non-image area thereof and a conductive lacquer coating on the inner surface of at least one of said holes, said holes being adapted to receive protrusions during imaging to accurately position said recording member and said conductive lacquer being in electrical contact with the exposed intermediate conductive layer on the inner surface of said hole.

Abstract:
Disclosed is a method and apparatus for holding and detecting correct placement of a photosensitive film on a carrier in a photographic reproduction apparatus for imaging the film. The carrier has an alignment surface against which the film is firmly held when imaged. Vacuum means are provided which are operably connected to the alignment surface for holding the film securely to the alignment surface. Air passageway means operably connected to the vacuum means are provided in the alignment surface, the air passageway means being of a size and in a position to form a closed vacuum system which permits a high vacuum level only when the film is correctly placed on the carrier. Vacuum level detecting means operably connected to the vacuum means are provided for detecting the level of the vacuum, and therefore, correct placement of the film on the carrier. The carrier is preferably provided with reciprocating means for moving the carrier to and from a load position outside of the enclosure of the photographic reproduction apparatus and an imaging position within the enclosure. The vacuum detecting means is preferably operably connected to control means which prevent the carrier from moving into an imaging position unless the film is correctly placed upon the carrier with the photosensitive surface facing the imaging means within the apparatus, and the control means is also preferably operably connected to the reciprocating means to return the carrier to the load position if the film moves from its securely held position against the alignment surface.

Abstract:
Disclosed is a method and apparatus for developing an electrostatic latent image on an electrophotographic film through use of a special developing chamber forming a passageway through which electrostatically charged toner particles are conducted to contact the film. The chamber has an opening bordered by a mask against which the film is placed to form a seal, an inlet through which toner particles and drying air enter the chamber, and an outlet through which toner particles and drying air leave the chamber. The apparatus further includes supply means for providing toner particles to the chamber, toner flow-control means for permitting a predetermined quantity of toner particles to flow through the developing chamber at predetermined times, air supply means for supplying drying air to the inlet of the chamber, and vacuum means connected to the outlet of the chamber for drawing the toner particles and air through the chamber. The vacuum means creates a sub-atmospheric pressure within the chamber to prevent leakage of toner particles from the chamber around the film.

Abstract:
Disclosed is electrical connective means for establishing electrical contact with an electrically conductive area on the surface of an electrophotographic film held on a carrier within an imaging apparatus. The imaging apparatus includes an enclosure within which the film is imaged, a carrier for holding the film while it is imaged, reciprocating means for moving the carrier to and from a load position near an opening of the enclosure and an imaging position within the enclosure. The electrical connective means includes an electrical contact member connected to the carrier for making electrical contact with the conductive area on the surface of the film, engagement means for moving the contact member into electrical contact with the conductive area in response to movement of the carrier from the load position to the imaging position, and disengagement means for moving the contact member away from the recording member in response to movement of the carrier from the imaging position to the load position.
