Abstract:
An essentially three-step method is described for producing a quantitative measure of a patient's dental health. The method includes the following steps:(1) Examining the teeth of the patient and obtaining a Decay, Missing and Filled Teeth (DMFT) score for the patient; (2) Examining the supporting dental tissue of the patient and obtaining a Periodontal Screening and Recording (PSR) score or, alternatively, a periodontal score in accordance with the American Academy of Periodontology system of classification; and (3) Producing an overall score of the dental health of the patient in dependence upon both the DMFT score and the PSR score.
