Skills:
My focus is addressing communication needs in bilingual children. When there happens to be a delay/disorder present it can be a very frustrating situation for parents as well as the children involved. Educating parents that confusion between the languages is not the issue at hand is what I love to do. In my case I grew up as a simultaneous bilingual learner in a dual language school program. I was able to adapt each language to the environment I was in on a daily basis such as speaking Spanish with my family at home and English while in school. I use personal experiences and educational approaches I have learned throughout my studies/experience to teach my patients how bilingualism can be addressed. I am able to efficiently carry out therapy plans as instructed by an SLP in order to assist patients in recovery plan. After graduation, I moved to Houston to find a comfortable work environment where I could experience career growth. Since then, I have been successful enough to have worked in various settings such as school, clinic and home health. The home health environment has allowed me to develop strong social skills and a high level of sensitivity when working in patients' homes. The personal involvement and interactions when working in a patient's home is very rewarding. The school and clinic settings have presented numerous challenges that I was able to address with the help of other clinicians/professionals.
