Limb Positioning Apparatus For Surgery

US Patent:
5775334, Jul 7, 1998
Filed:
Mar 15, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/619827
Inventors:
Steven R. Lamb - Union City CA
Eugene M. Wolf - San Francisco CA
Russel E. Klein - Redwood City CA
Assignee:
Orthopedic Systems, Inc. - Union City CA
International Classification:
A61G 1500
US Classification:
128845
Abstract:
A limb positioning apparatus utilizing a structural member having a compartment with an opening thereto. The structural member is supported at a predetermined position relative to the limb and at a certain distance from the limb. A first line is linked or attached to the limb and connected to a constant force spring located within the compartment of the structural member. A second line is attachable to the limb and is also connected to a constant force spring lying within the compartment of the structural member. The forces exerted by the first and second constant force springs are applied cumulatively or alternatively to provide a pre-determined tension force on the limb of the patient.

Suture Anchor Assembly With Compressible Distal Tip

US Patent:
2013010, Apr 25, 2013
Filed:
Oct 21, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/278735
Inventors:
Eugene Wolf - San Francisco CA, US
Assignee:
DEPUY MITEK, INC. - Raynham MA
International Classification:
A61B 17/04
US Classification:
606232
Abstract:
Methods and devices for fixation of soft tissue to bone are provided. In one embodiment, a suture anchor is provided having an elongate cylindrical body with proximal and distal ends and an inner lumen extending therethrough. The elongate body can be configured so that upon partial insertion into a bone hole, it is securely anchored within the bone hole and a suture extending through the inner lumen is freely slidable. It can also configured so that, upon further insertion into the bone hole, at least a portion of the elongate body compresses to lock the suture within the inner lumen such that the suture is prevented from sliding. In another embodiment, a suture anchor is provided having arms that have an open position for receiving a suture therebetween, and a closed position in which the suture is retained but allowed to slide freely.

Bone Implant

US Patent:
5895425, Apr 20, 1999
Filed:
Feb 6, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/019828
Inventors:
R. Donald Grafton - Naples FL
Eugene M. Wolf - San Francisco CA
Assignee:
Arthrex, Inc. - Naples FL
International Classification:
A61F 228
US Classification:
623 16
Abstract:
A surgical implant for securing ligament grafts into a joint. The implant has back-biting threads that allow the implant to be advanced into bone by impaction. If necessary, the implant can be removed from the bone by rotation. The implant is used, for example, for knee ligament repair by forming a longitudinal socket in a bone. The socket is intersected by a transverse pin. A flexible strand is drawn with the pin through the bone. A looped portion of the flexible strand is diverted so as to protrude out of the entrance to the longitudinal socket. The ends of the flexible strand remain accessible on either side of the bone. The ligament graft is captured within the strand loop protruding from the entrance to the socket. The strand is retracted into the socket, drawing the graft into the socket by pulling on the accessible ends of the flexible strand. The graft is fixed in the socket using the transverse implant.
