Abstract:
A method is provided for dynamically allocating capacity to uplinks and downlinks in a communication network. In the method, base stations of the communication network are apportioned into groups. Each of the base stations communicates over an uplink and a downlink with communication devices. For each of the groups, a first indication of utilization of the uplink for each of the base stations of the group is received. Also received is a second indication of utilization of the downlink for each of the base stations of the group. A capacity allocation between the uplinks and the downlinks of the base stations of the group is determined based upon the first and second indications. The capacity allocation is then employed for each of the base stations of the group.

US Patent:
8542653, Sep 24, 2013
Filed:
Jan 13, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/350242
Inventors:
Esmail Hejazi Dinan - Herndon VA, US
Jong-hak Jung - Herndon VA, US
Swati Tiwari - Fairfax VA, US
Hemanth Balaji Pawar - Herndon VA, US

International Classification:
H04W 36/04
US Classification:
370331, 455437, 455444
Abstract:
A mobile communication device wirelessly transfers user communications to a first wireless base station. The mobile communication device identifies a second wireless base station that has sufficient performance characteristics for wireless communication with the mobile communication device and that has a higher communication priority than the first wireless base station. In response, the mobile communication device initiates a hand-off from the first wireless base station to the second wireless base station. In response to the hand-off, the mobile communication device stops the wireless transfer of the user communications to the first wireless base station and wirelessly transfers additional user communications to the second wireless base station.

Aug 27, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/548921
Inventors:
Esmail Dinan - Herndon VA, US
Assignee:
Clear Wireless LLC - Kirkland WA
International Classification:
H04W 74/04
US Classification:
370336, 370345
Abstract:
Methods and systems for assigning time-division multiplexed (TDM) slots in a multi-channel TDM system are presented. Preferably, a radio access network (RAN) assigns forward link and reverse link transmissions between the RAN and one or more wireless communication devices (WCDs) to TDM slots on various wireless channels. When making these assignments, the RAN may take into account (i) the priority of data that the RAN queues for the WCDs, and (ii) the signal quality at which the WCDs can receive the various wireless channels.

System And Method For Paging Cycle Management In A Wireless Network

US Patent:
2011031, Dec 22, 2011
Filed:
Jun 21, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/819887
Inventors:
Esmail Dinan - Herndon VA, US
Assignee:
CLEAR WIRELESS LLC - Kirkland WA
International Classification:
H04W 68/02
US Classification:
455458
Abstract:
A system to control paging cycles in a wireless network assigns mobile stations to one of a plurality of paging groups based on the paging cycle requirements of the individual mobile stations. In addition, the mobile stations in a particular paging group are further subdivided into subgroups that may be substantially equal in size. At any particular paging cycle, only one subgroup of a particular paging group is included in the paging process thus reducing the overall number of mobile stations that need to be paged in any particular paging cycle.

US Patent:
2013005, Mar 7, 2013
Filed:
Oct 8, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/647079
Inventors:
Swati Tiwari - Austin TX, US
Hemanth Balaji Pawar - Herndon VA, US
Esmail H. Dinan - Herndon VA, US
Krishna Sitaram - Chantilly VA, US

Abstract:
Systems and methods of operating multimode 3G/4G communications devices in an overlapping 3G/4G coverage area (e.g., WiMAX or LTE/CDMA-EvDO) include determining a loading condition of the 3G and 4G base stations. If the 3G and 4G base stations are lightly loaded, one or more 4G Channel Quality Indicators (CQI) are compared with one or more corresponding 3G Data Rate Control (DRC) indices to determine which of the 3G and 4G networks allows a higher data throughput. The dual mode communications device is handed off to a 4G base station associated with the 4G coverage if the 4G network allows the higher data throughput; otherwise, the dual mode communications device is handed off to a 3G base station. User priorities, application categories, and/or MIMO and diversity modes may be used to determine handoff if the base stations are more than lightly loaded.
