Abstract:
A method of removing carbon from fly ash may include introducing the fly ash into one of a plurality of interconnected vertically stacked hearths of a multiple hearth furnace, heating the fly ash, exposing the fly ash to oxygen, allowing at least a portion of the carbon in the fly ash to undergo combustion, and conveying the fly ash to another of the plurality of interconnected vertically stacked hearths.
