THE UNIVERSITY OF UTAH - Salt Lake City UT
International Classification:
A61B 5/103, A61F 5/00
US Classification:
600592, 602 27
Abstract:
Systems, devices, and methods for measuring an under foot load profile of a tibial fracture patient during a period of partial weight bearing are described. The system may include a walking boot cast. A housing, including an inner surface and an upper surface that cooperate to define an inner cavity, may be oriented with respect to a patient's tibia. The upper surface is slidably received within the inner cavity in a piston and cylinder configuration. The system may include a pressure sensor configured to monitor the load profile of a patient during the desired period of partial weight bearing. The pressure sensor may be located below the upper surface. The system may include a noncompressible force transmitter positioned within the inner cavity and at least partially encapsulating an upper portion of the pressure sensor to transmit pressure within the housing to the pressure sensor.

2012001, Jan 12, 2012
Filed:
Jul 7, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/178314
Inventors:
Erik N. Kubiak - Salt Lake City UT, US
Kylee North - Bountiful UT, US
Robert W. Hitchcock - Sandy UT, US
Assignee:
THE UNIVERSITY OF UTAH - Salt Lake City UT
International Classification:
A61B 5/103
US Classification:
600592
Abstract:
Systems, devices, and methods for measuring an under foot load profile of a patient during a period of partial weight bearing are described. The system may include a walking boot cast. A housing, including an inner surface and an upper surface that cooperate to define an inner cavity, may be oriented with respect to a patient's leg. The upper surface may be slidably received within the inner cavity in a piston and cylinder configuration or may be otherwise configured.

Systems, Devices, And Methods For Providing Foot Loading Feedback To Patients And Physicians During A Period Of Partial Weight Bearing

US Patent:
2013015, Jun 13, 2013
Filed:
Feb 1, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/757559
Inventors:
Erik N. Kubiak - Salt Lake City UT, US
Kylee North - Bountiful UT, US
Tomasz Petelenz - Salt Lake City UT, US
Robert W. Hitchcock - Sandy UT, US
International Classification:
A61B 5/103, A61B 5/11, A61B 5/00
US Classification:
600592
Abstract:
Systems, devices, and methods for providing user feedback regarding compliance with a set of partial weight bearing (PWB) criteria are described. A computer system receives force data from a non-compressible force transmitter that is assigned to a user, and accesses the force data received from the non-compressible force transmitter to determine whether the user is within a predefined pressure compliance range. The pressure compliance range specifies a prescribed range of pressure that is to be applied during a PWB period. The computer system then receives a compliance data request from the user or the user's physician and communicates compliance data representing the user's compliance with the prescribed range of pressure during the PWB period to the user and/or the user's physician.

Bone Plate And Keel Systems

US Patent:
2011030, Dec 15, 2011
Filed:
Jul 7, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/178460
Inventors:
Erik N. KUBIAK - Salt Lake City UT, US
Charles L. Saltzman - Salt Lake City UT, US
Assignee:
University of Utah - Salt Lake City UT
International Classification:
A61B 17/80
US Classification:
606 70
Abstract:
Systems and methods for stabilizing portions of bone are provided. In some aspects, a bone plate system includes a plate configured to be fastened to at least one bone portion. The plate includes a keel slot and a locking assembly. The bone plate system also includes a keel configured to extend into the at least one bone portion through the keel slot. The locking assembly is configured to substantially prevent the keel from dislodging from the plate when the keel extends into the at least one bone portion through the keel slot.

System For Tissue Fixation To Bone

US Patent:
2012020, Aug 9, 2012
Filed:
Feb 4, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/021651
Inventors:
Erik N. KUBIAK - Salt Lake City UT, US
Assignee:
University of Utah Research Foundation - Salt Lake City UT
International Classification:
A61B 17/08
US Classification:
606151
Abstract:
Methods and systems are provided for fixating connective tissue to bone. Some aspects include a carrier member having a length, width, and thickness, wherein the length and width are each at least two times greater than the thickness; attachment members extending from the carrier member and that engage connective tissue of an animal; and a bone engaging member extending from the carrier member and configured to attach to a bone of the animal. In some aspects, when the attachment members are engaged with the connective tissue and the bone engaging member is attached to the bone, the connective tissue and the bone are limited in being pulled apart from one another during physiological use of the connective tissue.
