Embodiments of the present invention provide an abstraction for the representation of a network device's configuration and management data that is not tied to a particular protocol or network device implementation but is, instead, an original, general format used as source for producing multiple, alternate and/or equivalent representations that exist and occur simultaneously within a system of network devices. Other embodiments of the invention utilize XML abstraction as the input to a system of software code generators that can produce application programming interfaces used to communicate and manage network devices that support specific management protocols and representations. Another embodiment of the invention is the result of generalizing an existing, but specific, representation of a network device's configuration and management data so that the newly-generalized format can be repurposed and provide alternate, additional but equivalent representations of the original, specific network device configuration and management information.

A file-mapping method and system can better manage the number of items (i. e. , files, subdirectories, or a combination of them) within any single directory within a storage medium. The method and system can be used to limit the number of items within the directory, direct content and content components to different directories, and provide an internally recognizable name for the filename. When searching the storage medium, time is not wasted searching what appears to be a seemingly endless list of filenames or subdirectory names within any single directory. A client computer can have requests for content fulfilled quicker, and the network site can reduce the load on hardware or software components. While the method and system can be used for nearly any storage media, the method and system are well suited for cache memories used with web servers.

A method and system are disclosed for cache management and regeneration of dynamically-generated locale-sensitive content (DGLSC) in one or more server computers within a client-server computer network. One embodiment of the method of this invention can comprise receiving a request for content from a user at a client computer and determining the user's locale preference with, for example, an automatic locale detection algorithm. The requested content can be dynamically generated from a template as DGLSC based on the user locale preference. If the template is a cacheable template, a locale-sensitive filename can be generated for the DGLSC based on the user locale preference. The locale-sensitive filename can be associated with the DGLSC. The DGLSC can be cached in a locale-sensitive directory, such that it can be served (and thus avoid duplicative generation of the same content) in response to subsequent requests from users having the same locale preference The DGLSC is then served to the requesting user at his or her client computer.

Embodiments disclosed herein provide systems and methods for provisioning network access for a user in order to provide access control to one or more networks with regard to the user. More particularly, a user may be authenticated and, based on a user profile associated with the authenticated user, provisioning rules may be established for the user such that the user's network access to one or more networks may be controlled based upon the user profile associated with the user. In a network utilized by multiple users, the use of access control based on user profiles associated with the users may prevent any one user or users from accessing one or more networks to the exclusion or detriment of other users because each user may be limited to the network resources provisioned to that user based on the user profile associated with the user.
