Member of US Rugby Team, 1976
At Cal I developed a love for playing Rugby. After graduating I was one of the founding members of the Old Blues Rugby Club (former Cal Players) and OMBAC Rugby Club in San Diego. Between my junior and senior years in college I travelled with Cal for 6 weeks of rugby in Australia and New Zealand playing the top universities and rep sides. After graduating (and Explo '72) I went on a six-week tour to New Zealand with a California all-star Rep team. In 1976 I was on the US Rugby team and played against Australia (Wallabies) and lost 24-12...which in retrospect wasn't all that bad. This was the first US team since the US won the Olympics back in the 20's. Rugby will be coming back to the Olympics in 2016 in Rio in the form of 7-a-side. I continued to play and coach (mostly 7's) until I was 40.
