Reinforcing Bar Splice With Cutting Edge Bolts

Reinforcing Bar Splice With Cutting Edge Bolts

US Patent:
2008017, Jul 24, 2008
Filed:
Jan 11, 2008
Appl. No.:
11/972698
Inventors:
Eric J. Wilson - Solon OH, US
Michael H.S. Oh - Twinsburg OH, US
International Classification:
E04C 5/16
US Classification:
527261, 5274519, 5274521, 411 92
Abstract:
A bolt has a pointed end with cutting edges. The cutting edges may have knurls (grooves) or ridges, and may have a spiral arrangement. The bolt may have a convex end, such as a cone end or a curved end. A plurality of bolts may be used as part of a reinforcing bar splice that also includes a sleeve. The bolts engage threaded holes of the sleeves. As the bolts are tightened, they bore into the receiving bar ends, securing the bar ends within the sleeve. Cutting edges on the bolts aid in boring the ends of the bolts into the reinforcing bar ends. Using cutting edges on the bolt ends allows deeper penetration of the bolts into the reinforcing bar ends, without increasing the amount of torque used.

Lateral Seismic Brace

Lateral Seismic Brace

US Patent:
8353143, Jan 15, 2013
Filed:
Jan 21, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/356622
Inventors:
Eric C. Osborn - Medina OH, US
Nicholas J. Ambrogio - Highland Heights OH, US
Eric J. Wilson - Solon OH, US
Paul Hart - Warren OH, US
Assignee:
ERICO International Corporation - Solon OH
International Classification:
E04B 1/00, F16L 3/08, A47B 3/00, A47K 1/08
US Classification:
5274521, 248 70, 248 72, 248 73, 248 744, 2482281, 248313, 521272, 52703
Abstract:
A sway brace fitting clamp is used for lateral bracing of sprinkler or other types of pipe (designated the service pipe) to a structure, to prevent movement of the service pipe perpendicular to the axis of the pipe relative to the structure to which it is attached. The sway brace fitting clamp includes a U-bolt which fits around the service pipe, and a pair of hooks that are coupled to straight ends of the U-bolt, for hooking the sway brace pipe. A pair of nuts engages threaded portions of the U-bolt ends. The nuts may be tightened to pull the sway brace pipe into contact with the service pipe, firmly clamping the sway brace pipe and the service pipe together.

Hanger Clamp With Hanger Strap

Hanger Clamp With Hanger Strap

US Patent:
2008001, Jan 17, 2008
Filed:
Dec 20, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/642111
Inventors:
Eric Wilson - Solon OH, US
Michael Oh - Twinsburg OH, US
Raymond Laughlin - Middlefield OH, US
International Classification:
E21F 17/02
US Classification:
248062000
Abstract:
A hanger for hanging a circular cross-section object, such as a pipe or conduit, includes a top portion that has a channel for receiving a rod therethrough, and a bottom strap portion that supports the pipe and conduit. Ends of the bottom strap are fastenerlessly connected to the top portion on opposite sides of the top portion central portion. The ends of the bottom portion may fit into slots or notches in the top portion. Ends of the top portion may be bent to maintain the coupling between the portions. The bottom portion may include a flexible portion, such as looped flexible cable, with an end of the cable loop secured at one end of the top portion by inserting the cable into cable-receiving channels in the top portion. Alternatively the bottom portion may include a relatively rigid strap, such as a sheet metal strap.

Clamp For Circular Objects

Clamp For Circular Objects

US Patent:
8276854, Oct 2, 2012
Filed:
Jul 13, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/501631
Inventors:
Daniel S. Mominee - Chandler AZ, US
Raymond M. Olle - Brecksville OH, US
Michael H.-S. Oh - Twinsburg OH, US
Raymond S. Laughlin - Middlefield OH, US
Eric J. Wilson - Solon OH, US
Assignee:
ERICO International Corporation - Solon OH
International Classification:
F16L 3/00, E04C 2/52
US Classification:
248 62, 248 741, 248 744, 52219, 522201
Abstract:
A clamp includes first and second parts, each of the parts having a circular central section and a pair of straight extensions extending away from the circular central section in opposite directions. In the first part the holes are closed holes, while in the second part the holes are open holes, connected by slots to an upper edge of the part. Bolts may be pre-located through the closed holes, with nuts threaded onto the bolts, but not tightened. The pre-placed bolts may be received through the slots and into the open holes of the second part. The nuts may then be tightened against the second part to clamp the circular central sections on opposite sides of a circular object, such as a vertical pipe run, between the parts. According to a variant, the bolts are permanently secured to the first part so as to prevent rotation of the bolts.

Universal Structural Attachment For Seismic Brace

Universal Structural Attachment For Seismic Brace

US Patent:
2009018, Jul 23, 2009
Filed:
Jan 16, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/355067
Inventors:
Eric C. Osborn - Medina OH, US
Nicholas J. Ambrogio - Highland Heights OH, US
Eric J. Wilson - Solon OH, US
Jeffrey K. Jackson - Sagamore Hills OH, US
Paul B. Allen - Medina OH, US
International Classification:
E04B 1/98, E04H 9/02
US Classification:
521673, 527413
Abstract:
A structural attachment fitting for bracing includes a clamp, and a bracket pivotally coupled to the clamp. The structural attachment fitting is part of a sway brace assembly for providing sway bracing for a conduit, pipe, or other system. The clamp is a generally C-shape clamp having a slot for receiving different types of sway braces, such as pipe, angle, or strut. The slot has multiple sections or parts configured to receive different thicknesses of material. A lower leg of the clamp may have a rounded top surface that better engages a pipe used as a sway brace. A set screw of the clamp is tightened to presses the sway brace against a step on the lower leg of the clamp. The set screw is angled toward a closed end of the slot. The pressing of the set screw tip against the sway brace deforms the sway brace material.
