Method And Apparatus For Coding Identification Information Into A Security Transmission And Method And Apparatus For Automatic Learning Of Replacement Security Codes

US Patent:
2009011, Apr 30, 2009
Filed:
Oct 25, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/977744
Inventors:
Donald Richard Callentine - Plainfield IL, US
James Joseph Fitzgibbon - Batavia IL, US
Eric Templeton - Lombard IL, US
Assignee:
The Chamberlain Group, Inc. - Elmhurst IL
International Classification:
H04L 9/00
US Classification:
726 14
Abstract:
A method for use in relation to a security system includes receiving one or more items of information that each identify things or users associated with the security system, and forming a fixed portion of a security code using the one or more items of information. The fixed portion of the security code is stored in an apparatus that is configured to transmit the security code. A method and apparatus involving the receipt of such a security code are also disclosed. A method for use in relation to a security system includes generating a fixed portion of a security code, and setting a value of the fixed portion of the security code to a value that has a relationship to a fixed portion of a previously learned security code. The relationship indicates that the fixed portion of the security code is a replacement for the fixed portion of the previously learned security code. The fixed portion of the security code is stored in an apparatus that is configured to transmit the security code. A method and apparatus involving the receipt of such a security code are also disclosed.

Method And Apparatus To Facilitate Controlling An Overlock As Pertains To A Self-Storage Facility

US Patent:
2009023, Sep 17, 2009
Filed:
Dec 30, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/346072
Inventors:
Daniel M. Vincent - Phoenix AZ, US
Eric Templeton - Lombard IL, US
Assignee:
The Chamberlain Group, Inc. - Elmhurst IL
International Classification:
G08B 29/00
US Classification:
340 57
Abstract:
Upon detecting a secondary influence of interest one automatically controls one or more overlooks for one or more of the self-storage units as comprise a part of a self-storage facility. The secondary influence can comprise, for example, a weather condition (such as a sleeting weather condition) that is capable of causing the overlock to persist a given lock state (such as a presently-locked state). The automatic action can comprise, for example, automatically removing the overlock condition for some or all of the presently overlooked self-storage units regardless of the present contractual propriety of maintaining an overlooked state.

System And Method For Operating A Moveable Barrier Operator

US Patent:
2008031, Dec 18, 2008
Filed:
Jun 12, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/761870
Inventors:
Ronald David Brogle - Addison IL, US
Frank Garrett - Barrington IL, US
Michael C. Garrett - Wilmette IL, US
Hamin Tien - Hoffmann Estates IL, US
Edward Lukas - Batavia IL, US
Eric Templeton - Lombard IL, US
Assignee:
THE CHAMBERLAIN GROUP, INC. - Elmhurst IL
International Classification:
G06K 9/00
US Classification:
382124
Abstract:
The presence of a first human fingerprint at the fingerprint scanner. The first human fingerprint is analyzed to determine whether the first human fingerprint has been previously learned by the barrier movement operator. When the first human fingerprint is determined to be previously learned, a first command is sent to actuate a moveable barrier operator. Within a predetermined time period after the first human fingerprint has been determined to be previously learned, the presence of a second human fingerprint is sensed at the fingerprint scanner. Without analyzing the second fingerprint, a second command is sent to actuate the moveable barrier operator. The first fingerprint and the second fingerprint may be from the same or different users.

System And Method For Operating A Moveable Barrier Operator

US Patent:
2008030, Dec 18, 2008
Filed:
Jun 12, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/761887
Inventors:
Ronald David Brogle - Addison IL, US
Frank Garrett - Barrington IL, US
Michael C. Garrett - Wilmette IL, US
Hamin Tien - Hoffmann Estates IL, US
Edward Lukas - Batavia IL, US
Eric Templeton - Lombard IL, US
Assignee:
THE CHAMBERLAIN GROUP, INC. - Elmhurst IL
International Classification:
G06K 9/00
US Classification:
340 57, 382116, 713182
Abstract:
In some of these approaches, a first fingerprint of a first user is stored in a memory and the transmission of an activation code is authorized. Subsequently, the first fingerprint is re-sensed and authenticated and a second fingerprint of a second user is responsively sensed and stored. The activation code is transmitted to the moveable barrier operator upon subsequent authenticating of the second fingerprint. Subsequently, the second fingerprint is re-sensed and authenticated and a third fingerprint of a third user is responsively sensed and stored. The activation code is transmitted to the moveable barrier operator upon subsequent authenticating of the third fingerprint.

Entry Control System

US Patent:
2004025, Dec 23, 2004
Filed:
Nov 18, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/715988
Inventors:
James Fitzgibbon - Batavia IL, US
Neil Peplinski - North Barrington IL, US
Eric Templeton - Lombard IL, US
International Classification:
G06F007/04
US Classification:
340/005710, 340/005510
Abstract:
An entry control system and method for permitting authorized users to access a controlled area by moving a barrier comprises a specific action button and an entry request device for accepting a user data input. A controller is operably coupled to the entry request device and the specific action button and having an output. The transmitter receives the user data input and an indication of a position of the barrier and determines based at least in part upon the user data input and the indication of the position of the barrier whether a first control signal should be generated at the output, the controller also receiving an indication of an actuation of the specific action button and selectively generating a second control signal at the output based at least in part upon the indication of the position of the barrier.

Entry Control System

US Patent:
2002005, May 9, 2002
Filed:
Jan 2, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/752955
Inventors:
James Fitzgibbon - Batavia IL, US
Neil Peplinski - North Barrington IL, US
Eric Templeton - Lombard IL, US
Assignee:
THE CHAMBERLAIN GROUP, INC.
International Classification:
G08B013/00
US Classification:
340/541000, 340/540000
Abstract:
An entry control system for allowing access permission to be granted remotely includes an access controller for generating an entry request signal. An authentication system coupled to the access controller determines whether prior authorization will cause prohibition of entry by a controller which holds an access permission state for a predetermined area of a controlled area.
