Boring Bar Having Internal Coolant Supply And Cutter Retaining Nozzle

US Patent:
2007028, Dec 13, 2007
Filed:
Jun 13, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/452154
Inventors:
Enrico R. Giannetti - East Bernard TX, US
International Classification:
B23P 15/28
US Classification:
407 11
Abstract:
A boring bar has a shank having a cutter support head at one end. A flow passage extends longitudinally through the shank to the cutter support head and intersects a transverse flow passage that is defined in part by a clamp screw passage of the head. A metal cutting insert is clamped to the cutter support head by a clamp that is secured by a clamp screw being threaded into the clamp screw passage. The clamp member defines at least one coolant fluid flow passage having a discharge opening or openings each located and oriented to direct a jet of coolant fluid onto the metal cutting insert immediately at the site of cutting engagement within the rotating workpiece. The clamp screw defines an internal passage that communicates with the transverse coolant fluid flow passage and conducts coolant fluid onto the metal cutting insert. Alternatively, an annular clearance is defined about the shank of the clamp screw and serves as a coolant flow passage which is in fluid communication with the internal coolant fluid discharge passage or passages of the clamp member.

Sep 5, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/515587
Inventors:
Enrico R. Giannetti - East Bernard TX, US
International Classification:
B23B 29/00, B32B 29/00
US Classification:
82158
Abstract:
A boring bar has a shank having a cutter support head at one end. A flow passage extends to the cutter support head and intersects a transverse flow passage that is defined in part by a clamp screw passage of the head. A metal cutting insert is clamped to the cutter support head by a clamp that is secured by a clamp screw being threaded into the clamp screw passage. The clamp screw defines an internal or external passage that communicates with the internal coolant fluid passage and completes a coolant distribution circuit. The clamp defines an internal coolant fluid passage having a discharge opening located and oriented to direct a jet of coolant fluid onto the metal cutting insert immediately at the site of cutting engagement within the rotating workpiece. The cutter support head also has a passage and chip removal jet nozzle that orients a jet of coolant fluid adjacent the cutter insert for remove metal chips during machining.

Quick Change Tool Post Having Laterally Off-Set Dovetail Connections

US Patent:
6571671, Jun 3, 2003
Filed:
Sep 29, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/676060
Inventors:
Enrico R. Giannetti - East Bernard TX 77435
International Classification:
B23B 2700
US Classification:
82160, 82161, 82158
Abstract:
A quick-change tool post, having a rectangular tool post body with a bore there through defining an axis of rotation. The body defines a plurality of generally rectangular tool support faces and a plurality of laterally offset external dovetail connections receiving internal dovetail connections of overlapping tool support members. A post extends through the body and defines a pivot about which the body is rotatable. An indexing mechanism having locking and unlocking conditions permits unlocking of the post during a first increment of rotational locking handle movement and rotation of the post during a second increment of rotational movement of the handle in the same rotational direction.

Quick Setting And Release Machine Tool Post

US Patent:
5214989, Jun 1, 1993
Filed:
Sep 26, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/766441
Inventors:
Enrico R. Giannetti - East Bernard TX
International Classification:
B23B 2928
US Classification:
82159
Abstract:
A quick setting and release machine tool post having a body block structure forming a pair or partial dove tail tool mounts externally thereof. The body block also forms a pair of expander receptacles each receiving a dove tail expander element in movable assembly therewith. A rotary actuator located within an actuator receptacle defined by the body block forms oppositely directed intersecting eccentric cam surfaces that are disposed for driving engagement with respective dove tail expander elements depending upon the direction of rotation of the actuator element. The dove tail expander elements are selectively linearly movable to establish tight locking engagement within the dove tail receptacles of tool holders and are retractable to release the tool holders for replacement or repositioning. The design and operational characteristics of the tool post mechanism minimizes wear of component parts and promotes long service life.

Multiple Machine Tool Support Block And Tool Post Having Internal Coolant Supply

US Patent:
7762166, Jul 27, 2010
Filed:
Feb 28, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/712115
Inventors:
Enrico R. Giannetti - East Bernard TX, US
International Classification:
B23B 3/20, B23P 15/28
US Classification:
82 50, 407 11
Abstract:
A coolant fluid supplying tool post is mounted to a machining system for machine controlled movement and has an internal coolant passage system, a coolant fluid inlet, a coolant fluid outlet and a first dove-tail mount. A multiple machine tool support block has a second dove-tail mount is in supported engagement with the first dove-tail mount. A plurality of machine tool receptacles are defined in the multiple machine tool support block and each is adapted for support of a machine tool therein. Tool retainer members are carried by the multiple machine tool support block for each of the machine tool receptacles and has retaining engagement with a machine tool located within a machine tool receptacle. Machine Tool Post Having Coolant Distribution System

US Patent:
2008008, Apr 10, 2008
Filed:
Oct 5, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/544137
Inventors:
Enrico R. Giannetti - East Bernard TX, US
International Classification:
B23B 29/00
US Classification:
82157
Abstract:
A quick-setting and release tool post mechanism provides for locking of tool holders to a tool post body and incorporates a gib drive member having angulated thread flanks that impart downward and lateral forces to one or more gibs to enhance the tool holder locking activity. The tool post and tool holder each have an internal coolant supply and distribution system for supplying coolant fluid during machining. The tool post has one or more thread flank actuated tapered gibs that are actuated by manually energized rotary motion of an externally threaded gib drive member to develop thread flank induced forces that achieve locking of tool holders at selected positions on dove-tail mounts and to achieve back-lash free quick release of the tool holders from the mounts.
