Dr. Elwyn Cabebe practices Medical Oncology and Hematology. A UC Berkeley graduate, he attended medical school at the University of Vermont. After residency at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, he completed his fellowship training at Stanford University. While there, he served as Clinical Instructor and led clinical trials in solid tumors, with emphasis in gastrointestinal malignancies. Dr. Cabebe was also a research associate for Genentech, Inc., helping to develop many of the modern cancer drugs used today. He is well published, including being the author of the Gastric Cancer review on WebMD (emedicine). Dr. Cabebe is the first investigator in the country to conduct a lung cancer screening trial using a genetic test. He has directorship appointments including being the current Co-Medical Director of Oncology at Good Samaritan Hospital. He also is the chairperson of the Good Samaritan Hospital Tumor Board. Dr. Cabebe recognizes that cancer is an uninvited, life changing condition. He feels that his role for patients and their families is to shepherd them through the difficult process of a cancer diagnosis with the focus on attaining the best quality of life possible. Dr. Cabebe is married and has two young sons. He lives in the San Jose/Los Gatos community and volunteers at many community functions such as the San Jose Family Shelter. Other interests include boxing, muay thai kickboxing, mixed martial arts, music, and theatre. As an undergraduate, he was a part of the University of California at Berkeley boxing team and has been muay thai kickboxing for over 15 years.
