Axial Magnetic Field High Voltage Vacuum Interrupter

US Patent:
5387771, Feb 7, 1995
Filed:
Apr 8, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/044416
Inventors:
Elmer L. Luehring - Cleveland Heights OH
Assignee:
Joslyn Hi-Voltage Corporation - Cleveland OH
International Classification:
H01H 3366
US Classification:
200144B
Abstract:
An axial magnetic field high voltage vacuum interrupter for interrupting the flow of electrical current in high voltage electrical circuits has a housing with a vacuum therein and two switch contacts disposed within the housing. The switch contacts are movable with respect to each other between a first position in which they are in contact with each other and a second position in which they are separated from each other by a space sufficient to interrupt the current flow through them. One or both of the switch contacts comprise a plurality of helically coiled current-carrying bars, an electrically conductive stem portion conductively coupled to the helically coiled bars at one end, and an electrically conductive contact member conductively coupled to the helically coiled bars at another end. Each of the helically coiled bars has a first portion which extends radially outward from the stem portion and a second portion which is helically coiled about an axis substantially parallel with the stem portion.

Modular Vacuum Interrupter

US Patent:
4527028, Jul 2, 1985
Filed:
Jun 27, 1984
Appl. No.:
6/625047
Inventors:
Elmer L. Luehring - Cleveland Heights OH
Assignee:
Joslyn Mfg. and Supply Co. - Chicago IL
International Classification:
H01H 3366
US Classification:
200144B
Abstract:
A modular vacuum interrupter for controlling the application of single or polyphase electrical power to single or polyphase electrical apparatus includes a rigid base, a plurality of identical vacuum switch modules, an operating mechanism and cover. The base includes a pair of inclined surfaces that define a pair of tracks for capturing and retaining the plurality of vacuum switch modules and the cover therebetween and in contact with the base. Each of the vacuum switch modules includes first and second electrical terminals, an enclosed vacuum switch having a pair of electrical contacts in an evacuated environment, an operating plunger for moving contact into engagement with a stationary contact, a return spring for biasing the operating plunger and vacuum contacts to an OPEN position, a movable flexible shunt for electrically interconnecting the first terminal to the movable contact and an internally threaded insulating cap for isolating the vacuum switches mounted in adjacent vacuum switch modules. The operating mechanism includes a rotatable operating shaft mechanically interconnected with each operating plunger in each switch module for placing the pairs of contacts simultaneously in their CLOSED positions. The operating mechanism also includes solenoids for initiating the rotational movement of the operating shaft.

High Voltage Vacuum Type Circuit Interrupter

US Patent:
4568804, Feb 4, 1986
Filed:
Sep 6, 1983
Appl. No.:
6/529393
Inventors:
Elmer L. Luehring - Cleveland Heights OH
Assignee:
Joslyn Mfg. and Supply Co. - Chicago IL
International Classification:
H01H 3366
US Classification:
200144B
Abstract:
A high voltage vacuum-type circuit interrupter is disclosed that includes a single or one-piece ceramic insulating housing providing both the external solid insulation between a line terminal and a switch terminal and the external solid insulation between the line terminal and electrical ground. The ceramic housing is mounted on a metallic base by the wedging action of a spring disposed under tension on an exterior inclined surface at the lower longitudinal end of the insulating housing and on an interior inclined surface of the base. A solenoid operated toggle mechanism disposed in the base actuates an elongated operating rod that effectuates the opening and closing of a pair of switch contacts positioned in an evacuated ceramic casing that includes a relatively shallow recess formed about its internal periphery intermediate its longitudinal ends. A tubular metallic vapor shield is held in the ceramic casing by a plurality of metallic ring segments positioned in the recess. Radially outwardly protuberant portions formed in the shield both above and below the ring segments secure the shield to the ring segments.

Crossbow Cocking Device

US Patent:
5243956, Sep 14, 1993
Filed:
Mar 30, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/860075
Inventors:
Elmer L. Luehring - Cleveland OH
Assignee:
Barnett International, Inc. - Odessa FL
International Classification:
F41B 512, F41B 518
US Classification:
124 86
Abstract:
An apparatus for cocking a conventional crossbow, the crossbow having a stock with a first end and a second end. The apparatus comprises a pair of pulleys that are removably attachable to the string of the crossbow, and a cord extending through one pulley, about the second end of the crossbow stock and through the other pulley, so that by pulling the opposite ends of the string the bow may be cocked.

Fuel Tank Backfilling System For Vehicles

US Patent:
5706776, Jan 13, 1998
Filed:
Feb 20, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/802480
Inventors:
Elmer L. Luehring - Cleveland Heights OH
International Classification:
F02B 7700
US Classification:
123198D
Abstract:
A backfilling system for a liquid fuel tank of a vehicle using engine exhaust gas to prevent the accumulation of explosive vapors in the fuel tank. Exhaust gas is cooled, filtered and regulated in pressure before entering the fuel tank.
