Abstract:
A language assessment includes an ability to pursue a nonlinear process model. A multi-stage suite of subtests is provided, each stage comprising a plurality of subtests designed to evaluate a particular level of language disorder. The suite can be entered and left at any point depending upon prior knowledge and assessment results. Subtests are included for evaluating phonological awareness, word meanings and vocabulary (semantics), word and sentence structure (syntax and morphology), the rules of oral language used in responding to and conveying messages (pragmatics), and recall and retrieval of spoken language (memory). The results of the assessment are presented in a report, in which educationally relevant recommendations are made for intervention and accommodations. An observational rating scale for authentic evaluation of communication in academic settings and a pragmatics profile for assessing social language skills in different contexts are provided.

Abstract:
The present invention provides for a system for assessing an individual's understanding of basic concepts comprising a basic concepts assessment book having at least one illustration showing at least one basic concept, a correct receptive response associated with at least one illustration for comparison with a receptive response given by the individual being tested according to a receptive inquiry associated with at least one illustration and a correct expressive response for comparison with an expressive response given by the individual according to an expressive inquiry associated with at least one illustration. The invention tests basic concepts using related pairs. Further, the system associates a receptive score representing a comparison between the correct receptive response and the receptive response, an expressive score representing the comparison between the correct expressive response and the expressive response, whereby an individual's understanding of basic concepts is assessed expressively and receptively with inquiries associated with at least one illustration.

Abstract:
A test, system, and method for testing parietal lobe function in a subject, wherein the method includes displaying to a subject a first ordered array of objects having a variety of colors, which the subject is prompted to name. The named object colors are compared with the correct object colors, and a count is maintained of errors in the named object colors and an interval taken by the subject to complete naming the object colors, these numbers compared with predetermined data for determining a possible parietal lobe function deficiency. An analogous test is performed of shape-naming, and, in a preferred embodiment, of color and shape naming. A practice test administration is also described, as well as a software-driven administration and scoring of the test.
