Abstract:
An apparatus and method is disclosed to calculate the actual received desired channel power from the downstream transmit power of a Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) when operating at the nominal line voltage and/or at the normal room temperature as per the DOCSIS specification. A Set-top Device produces a Downstream Power Management (DPM) gain measurement signal having a known power level. The Set-top Device embeds the DPM gain measurement signal onto a received downstream multi-channel communication signal. After embedding the DPM gain measurement signal onto the downstream multi-channel communication signal, the Set-top Device downconverts the combined DPM gain measurement signal and downstream multi-channel communication signal to recover one or more communication channels containing information of a broadcast. The Set-top Device measures a power level of a representation of the DPM gain measurement signal embedded within the one or more communication channels containing the information of the broadcast to determine a Set-top Device gain. The Set-top Device measures a power level of the one or more communication channels containing the information of the broadcast.

Method And System For Enhancing Image Rejection In Communications Receivers Using Test Tones And A Baseband Equalizer

US Patent:
2006000, Jan 12, 2006
Filed:
Jan 5, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/029733
Inventors:
Ramon Gomez - San Juan Capistrano CA, US
Donald McMullin - Laguna Hills CA, US
International Classification:
H03H 7/30
US Classification:
375235000
Abstract:
Certain embodiments of the invention provide a method and system for enhancing image rejection in communications receivers. A test tone signal may be injected into a receiver. A quadrature error in an in-phase (I) channel and a quadrature (Q) channel of the receiver may be estimated based on the injecting of the test tone signal into the receiver. A plurality of equalizer coefficients may be adjusted to correct the estimated quadrature error in the I channel and the Q channel of the receiver. A corrected I channel and a corrected Q channel may be generated corresponding to the I channel and the Q channel in the receiver based on the adjusting of the equalizer coefficients.

H03F 1/14
US Classification:
330 51, 330129, 330251, 330285, 341144, 341173
Abstract:
An upstream amplifier is integrated on a substrate with a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) to form an integrated circuit. In an embodiment, a low-pass filter is also integrated on the substrate. The output signal level of the upstream amplifier is controllable. In embodiments, fine adjustments are made to the output signal level of the upstream amplifier by varying a bias current of the DAC. A software control bit is used to switch between a power-on mode of operation and a power-down mode of operation. The upstream amplifier transmits in a burst mode. The power consumption of the upstream amplifier scales with the amplifier's output signal level. A high degree of matching is attained between the positive and negative paths of the upstream amplifier. This provides high immunity from common-mode disturbances such as substrate noise, clock spurs, and glitches caused by a gain change.
