Baskets And Support Therefor, For Mass Merchandising Handling And Display Of Goods

US Patent:
4079836, Mar 21, 1978
Filed:
Nov 12, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/631365
Inventors:
Gene Von Stein - Oklahoma City OK
Don A. Stover - Moore OK
Harry B. Musser - Germantown TN
Assignee:
Folding Carrier Corporation, a division of Unarco Industries, Inc. - Chicago IL
International Classification:
A47F 314, B65D 2100
US Classification:
206513
Abstract:
A basket, with no movable parts, for holding and displaying goods is provd with opposed bails at the upper end and support feet at the lower end, constructed and arranged to provide secure but separable stacking character by a separable interconnection of bails and feet of two similar baskets, wherein the basket construction effects resilient snap-together and locking of bails and feet to provide a stacking, or columnar, arrangement with great stability. Additional safety means to prevent inadvertent unstacking is provided by cooperating elements on the baskets. Two baskets may be nested, for reducing volume occupied by baskets when stored or shipped, by use of interfitting such baskets in an inverted and offset arrangement that is accommodated by slots defined adjacent basket corners. A base basket and support base combination provides a very stable construction, that may have additional baskets stacked in a column upon the base basket, by use of wire elements that are shaped and arranged to interfit for maximizing resistance by the base basket to tipping relative to its support base.

Shopping Cart With Baby Seat

US Patent:
4423882, Jan 3, 1984
Filed:
May 10, 1982
Appl. No.:
6/376593
Inventors:
Don A. Stover - Oklahoma City OK
Clarence W. Upshaw - Tuttle OK
Warren N. Norman - Oklahoma City OK
Assignee:
UNR Industries, Inc. - Chicago IL
International Classification:
B62B 300
US Classification:
280 3399B
Abstract:
A shopping cart with a baby seat at the rear of the cart. The front wall of the seat, against which the infant or child leans, has an upright, closed position and an open position. The width of the baby seat front wall is less than the width of the main lading-carrying basket of the shopping cart, so that it can be swung down from its upright, closed position in the forward direction, when desired, to rest on the bottom wall of the basket to increase the capacity of the shopping cart by adding the space enclosed by the side and rear walls of the baby seat. A latch holds the baby seat front wall in its upright, closed position and preferably cooperates with a lost motion hinge at the bottom of the wall, and in its preferred form includes at least one cammed latch member that slides up across a ramp or slide member to (1) move the front wall upward as it approaches its closed position, and then (2) drop the front wall down to seat it in its closed position. The latch can be released by reversing this procedure. The preferred hinge includes a stud carried at each end of the hinge pintle that extends in a transverse direction from the pintle at an obtuse angle, preferably 135. degree.

Shopping Cart

US Patent:
4116456, Sep 26, 1978
Filed:
May 19, 1977
Appl. No.:
5/798295
Inventors:
Don A. Stover - Moore OK
Norman R. Young - Oklahoma City OK
Glenmore J. Runnion - Oklahoma City OK
Assignee:
Unarco Industries, Inc. - Chicago IL
International Classification:
B62B 300
US Classification:
280 3399B
Abstract:
A shopping cart having a novel locking arrangement for the gate of the upper basket and featuring a baby basket that seats a child below the level of the upper basket for enhanced stability of the cart and economy of storage in the upper basket, as well as to position and face the child towards the mother who is pushing the cart so that the child cannot reach or kick the gate or the groceries in the upper basket. The novel locking arrangement for the gate includes a latch plate having an end restraining shield that provides an abutment stop for limiting the forward movement of the gate unless the gate is manually lifted and opened. The gate has ears which prevent the gate from falling into the interior of the basket, and has at least one pin that engages the end restraining shield. Auxiliary side walls are mounted above the sides of the baby basket to prevent the child from reaching items on the shelves of the store and to protect the child from the corners of shelves and from being accidentally struck by other carts. The rear wall of the upper basket is positioned above the back support of the baby basket to assist in supporting the back of the child.
