Dental Hand Instrument

US Patent:
6705865, Mar 16, 2004
Filed:
Feb 26, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/082897
Inventors:
Dennis W. Szymaitis - Pittsburgh PA 15205
International Classification:
A61C 300
US Classification:
433141
Abstract:
A hand-held dental instrument has an elongated handle and a blade shaped like a human foot. The blade has ankle, arch and instep edges that curve inwardly and are of different depth and curvature. There is a shank portion between the blade and the handle with the angles between the shank and the handle and between the shank and the surface of the blade preferably being 150° and 120° respectively. These angles allow the user to reach all areas of the mouth. The blade is thin enough to allow the instrument to reach between the lower front teeth.

Method Of Treating Periodontal Disease Using Periodontal Regeneration Composition

US Patent:
7322825, Jan 29, 2008
Filed:
Apr 3, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/406681
Inventors:
Dennis W. Szymaitis - Pittsburgh PA, US
International Classification:
A61C 5/00, A61K 9/50
US Classification:
4332281, 424499
Abstract:
A periodontal structure regeneration composition for treatment of periodontal disease is a mixture of particles of a bone growth material and free collagen. The periodontal regeneration composition is injected into the periodontal pocket through a needle. The composition may contain a thickener that increases the viscosity of the composition after the material has been injected into the periodontal pocket. The composition is available in pre-filled syringes offered in a kit that may also contain strips of surgical sponge or gauze that are sized to fit within a periodontal pocket, a tube of adhesive, a dental bur, a probe, a gauze placement tool, gauze counter and a brush for cleaning the dental bur.

Apparatus For Detecting Surgical Objects Within The Human Body

US Patent:
5456718, Oct 10, 1995
Filed:
Jan 3, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/176769
Inventors:
Dennis W. Szymaitis - Pittsburgh PA
International Classification:
A61F 202
US Classification:
623 11
Abstract:
An apparatus and method detects surgical objects within the human body where the apparatus includes the surgical object utilized in surgical procedures including a marker made of a selected nonmagnetostrictive, soft magnetic material which will emit known specific selected harmonic frequencies when exposed to an alternating electromagnetic field. That emission will cause a change in the alternating electromagnetic field which can be correlated to the presence of only the selected nonmagnetostrictive, soft magnetic material.

Dental Bur

US Patent:
6960083, Nov 1, 2005
Filed:
Mar 31, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/403605
Inventors:
Dennis W. Szymaitis - Pittsburgh PA, US
International Classification:
A61C003/02
US Classification:
433165, 433166
Abstract:
A specialized dental bur designed to easily enter the periodontal pocket to perform root planing and curettage without the need for incisions has a cutting head attached to a shank. The cutting head has a combined structure of a narrow, hemispherical tip, cylindrical portion of larger diameter and a transition portion having a curved surface between them. Color coding or marking enables bur segregation and enables depth determination. The bur can be used for abrading tooth root, gingiva, and bone structures without gingival incisions.
