Methods And Systems For Cerebral Cooling

Methods And Systems For Cerebral Cooling

US Patent:
2012003, Feb 9, 2012
Filed:
Jun 7, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/155130
Inventors:
Leroy D. Geist - Highlands Ranch CO, US
Dennis J. Griffin - Englewood CO, US
Assignee:
CVA TECHNOLOGIES, LLC - Parker CO
International Classification:
A61M 16/10
US Classification:
12820415
Abstract:
A brain cooling system includes a gas delivery system and a cooling apparatus. The gas delivery system may include an apparatus for establishing a desired pressure and flow rate for gases to be inhaled by a subject and an interface element. The pressurization element may comprise a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device. The interface element may include a breathing mask, such as a nasal non-invasive ventilation (NIV) mask, or a nostril occlusive nasal delivery device. Such a brain cooling system may be used to treat cerebral hypoperfusion, as may occur with a cerebral vascular accident (CVA), such as a stroke, a traumatic brain injury, or cardiac arrest, or with conditions that may lead to a CVA or to cerebral hypoperfusion. In a cerebral hypoperfusion treatment method, cooled respiratory gases, which may include an elevated amount of oxygen, may be introduced, under an elevated air pressure that exceeds a normal, physiologic air pressure generated as a subject inhales spontaneously, into the nasal cavity of the subject.

Devices And Methods Useful For Sealing Bodily Openings

Devices And Methods Useful For Sealing Bodily Openings

US Patent:
2012011, May 10, 2012
Filed:
Nov 23, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/303707
Inventors:
Cleon Stanley - Bloomington IN, US
Dennis Griffin - Englewood CO, US
Sean Chambers - Bloomington IN, US
International Classification:
A61B 17/03
US Classification:
606213
Abstract:
Among other things, there are disclosed apparatuses and methods for medically sealing an opening in a vessel or wall. For example, in medical applications, a delivery tube is provided for insertion through a sheath into a vessel (e.g. a blood vessel). A dome-shaped seal fixed to a filament, an absorbent and/or compressible buffer, and a locking member are provided in the delivery tube. The delivery tube is configured so that it can be inserted into the vessel through a sheath. Tension is maintained on the filament to hold the seal against the tube or sheath. The sheath is pulled out, which pulls out the tube at the same time, leaving the seal over the opening in the vessel wall. The locking member compresses the buffer against the outside of the vessel and with the filament holds the seal in place against the inside of a vessel.

Microtaper Needle And Method Of Use

Microtaper Needle And Method Of Use

US Patent:
7803142, Sep 28, 2010
Filed:
Jan 31, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/343663
Inventors:
Matthew Stevens Longson - Holladay UT, US
Dennis Joseph Griffin - Englewood CO, US
Assignee:
Summit Access LLC - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
A61M 5/32, A61M 5/178, A61F 11/00
US Classification:
604272, 604158, 606108
Abstract:
The present invention relates to medical needles used in connection with guide wires. A needle of the present invention includes a substantially cylindrical tube formed along a central longitudinal axis. A tapered tube is connected to one end of the tube and has a sharpened end. A channel extends through the cylindrical tube and the tapered tube, and is aligned with the longitudinal axis. In some embodiments, the tapered portion is radially expandable. For instance, radial expansion may result when a guide wire is selectively inserted through the channel. The radial expansion may be facilitated by a relief on the tapered tube portion. Optionally, the relief includes a plurality of slots which expand as a guide wire is inserted through the channel and tapered portion, thereby also causing the internal and outer diameters of the tapered portion to expand.

Anthony Ragheb - West Lafayette IN, US
Raymond Leonard - Bloomington IN, US
Neal Fearnot - West Lafayette IN, US
William Voorhees - West Lafayette IN, US
Thomas Kozma - McHenry IL, US
Brian Bates - Bloomington IN, US
Thomas Osborne - Bloomington IN, US
International Classification:
A61M 29/00
US Classification:
606200000
Abstract:
Endovascular filter () including a plurality of struts () with distal ends () adapted to anchor the filter to the vessel wall after deployment, such as by having barbs (), the filter being adapted to be retrieved if desired. Strut distal ends () are coated with an antiproliferative agent () that inhibits the ingrowth of tissue around the filter, thereby permitting the filter to be retrieved and removed atraumatically after a prolonged period of time, thus extending the useful life of the retrievable filter. Optionally, the proximal end () of the filter may also be so coated, or the entire filter.
