Abstract:
A Transport apparatus includes a vertically extending frame, three plate assemblies mounted on the frame and three assembly drives connected to the plate assemblies for vertically moving the plate assemblies in the frame. The frame surrounds a transport column which includes a bottom work position, a middle storage position and a top storage position. Each plate assembly includes a carriage adjacent a side of the frame, a rectangular plate, a hinge between the carriage and plate and a pair of hinge drives for rotating the plate between a horizontal load supporting position in the transport column and a vertical position adjacent the column. The assemblies are lowered to the under position with horizontal plates supporting pallets filled with work parts. Reciprocating Slat Conveyor

US Patent:
5522494, Jun 4, 1996
Filed:
Oct 26, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/329297
Inventors:
David E. Lutz - Carlisle PA
International Classification:
B65G 2504
US Classification:
1987503
Abstract:
A reciprocating slat conveyor for loading and unloading a bulk cargo from a stationary or movable receptacle includes a plurality of elongate slats arranged side-by-side along the bottom of the receptacle and grouped into three slat sets each set movable along the bottom of the receptacle. The conveyor includes three cross members each attached to a respective slat set. The cross members and slats are moved by a slat drive which simultaneously moves all slats and cross members in a first direction and then moves the slat sets and cross members in a second direction, opposite the first direction, one cross member and slat set at a time. An angled bulkhead overlies the cross members and drive and shields the member and drive from the contents of the receptacle.

International Classification:
B65G 25/04
US Classification:
1987504, 1987505
Abstract:
A reciprocating slat conveyor includes a plurality of slats arranged in a plurality of slat sets, with each slat having a receiving element. A cross-beam assembly is connected to the slats, wherein the cross-beam assembly includes a plurality of linear members. One cross-beam is connected to at least one linear member. Each cross-beam includes a plurality of connecting elements configured to engage the receiving elements on the slats. A plurality of bearing guides are configured to guide the linear members. An under-mount drive assembly of the conveyor comprises a plurality of cylinders, with each piston rod connected to a linear member.

Vehicle Loading And Unloading Apparatus

US Patent:
3952887, Apr 27, 1976
Filed:
Apr 16, 1974
Appl. No.:
5/461467
Inventors:
David Edward Lutz - Carlisle PA
International Classification:
B65G 6702
US Classification:
214 38C
Abstract:
Vehicle loading and unloading apparatus comprising a longitudinally extensible element having pallet load supporting rollers and ground-engaging rollers. Power drive means moves the extensible element under restrained pallet loads, spaced from the supporting floor by supporting beams or pallet feet, to wedge the loads upwardly and off of its supporting means. With the loads supported on the load supporting rollers, the extensible element is retracted to remove the entire load from the vehicle. In loading, loads are placed on the rollers and the extensible element is extended into the vehicle. The load is then restrained while the frame is withdrawn from beneath the loads, as a wedge would be withdrawn, to allow the loads to rest on supporting means within the vehicle.

Loading And Unloading Apparatus For Vehicles

US Patent:
4111318, Sep 5, 1978
Filed:
Apr 4, 1977
Appl. No.:
5/784406
Inventors:
David Edward Lutz - Carlisle PA
International Classification:
B60P 136
US Classification:
214 8322
Abstract:
This invention relates to a loading and unloading apparatus for a load-carrying vehicle. The arrangement includes a plurality of cables which are laid on the floor of the vehicle and which support loads placed thereon. The opposite ends of the cables are connected to separate power outputs on the underside of the floor, which power outputs include takeup reels. The cables can be moved in either longitudinal direction on the vehicle floor whereby loads supported on the cables are moved along the vehicle floor to facilitate loading and unloading of the vehicle.

Cargo Carrying Vehicle Having A Movable Bulkhead Located Therein

US Patent:
5143508, Sep 1, 1992
Filed:
Feb 5, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/651025
Inventors:
David E. Lutz - Carlisle PA
David W. Lutz - Carlisle PA
International Classification:
B60P 100
US Classification:
414510
Abstract:
A cargo carrying vehicle 10 including a body 12, a movable bulkhead 34 mounted in the interior 14 of the body 12 for movement relative to the body 12, and a plurality of inexpensible cables for stabilizing the movable bulkhead 34 against pivotal movement relative to the internal sidewalls 18, 24 of the body 12. A clamp that is movable relative to the movable bulkhead 34 grips and releases one or more of the inextensible cables, driving the movable bulkhead 34 along the inextensible cables in either direction. The clamp also restrains the movable bulkhead 34 against unwanted forward movement due to quick stops and prevents the load from retreating when the movable bulkhead 34 is used in connection with a reciprocating full or partial floor.

Article Handling Apparatus

US Patent:
RE31060, Oct 19, 1982
Filed:
Apr 10, 1981
Appl. No.:
6/253115
Inventors:
David W. Lutz - Carlisle PA
Assignee:
Automatic Truckloading Systems, Inc. - Carlisle PA
International Classification:
B65G 6708
US Classification:
414 28
Abstract:
A conveyor, preferably of the roller type, for receiving palletized loads arranged in two parallel rows. The conveyor is arranged in association with a vehicle whereby the palletized loads to be placed on the vehicle are prestaged on the conveyor and the entire load is moved into the vehicle. Palletized loads are placed on the one end of the conveyor by means of a forklift truck or the like and then the palletized loads are aligned and compacted on the conveyor by means of a movable gantry which straddles the conveyor. The gantry is provided with expansible side walls which move laterally inwardly toward the palletized loads to compact and align the loads laterally. Rear gates are swingably mounted on the gantry between open and closed positions. When the gates are closed, they act as a bulkhead to advance the palletized loads on the roller conveyor as the gantry is advanced relative to the conveyor.
