Arrangement, Apparatus, And Method To Form Laminates, And The Like Such As Copper Clad

US Patent:
4505771, Mar 19, 1985
Filed:
Jun 9, 1982
Appl. No.:
6/386504
Inventors:
David W. George - New Castle PA
Assignee:
Wean United, Inc. - Pittsburgh PA
International Classification:
B32B 3120
US Classification:
156285
Abstract:
An arrangement, apparatus, and method for alternately stacking material, such as copper, glass, etc. to form a stack of uncured laminates in a laminating press line. A material sheet pick-up and depositing head has at least one compartment which receives negative air pressure for a pick-up mode, and positive air pressure for a material sheet depositing mode. A slightly curved convexed surface on the underside of this head may cooperate with the positive pressure in first forcing the center of the sheet downwardly and then outwardly onto the build-up station, whereby air is dispelled from between the sheet and the already uncured stacked laminates, resulting in the sheet being placed smoothly onto the stacked laminates. A conveyor belt system mounted on the head cooperates with the negative air pressure to uncoil a sheet of material from a let-off unit.

Apparatus For Stretching And Stripping Belting In A Multiplaten Press

US Patent:
4094619, Jun 13, 1978
Filed:
Aug 20, 1976
Appl. No.:
5/716329
Inventors:
David Weinschenk George - New Castle PA
Assignee:
Wean United, Inc. - Pittsburgh PA
International Classification:
B29H 722
US Classification:
425135
Abstract:
This disclosure includes entry and delivery clamps arranged on opposite sides of a multiplaten press for clamping belting in order to apply a tension to the belting prior to pressing. The tension is applied by moving the entry clamp in a direction away from the press. The belting is fed over support rollers on opposite sides of the press which receive the belting from different openings of the press. These rollers are caused to move before the press is closed to maintain the belting away from the hot platens of the press, then moved in concert with and in the direction of the platens during pressing and then, if required, they may be moved independent of the platens when the press has been opened after pressing to effect a stripping of the belting from the platens.

Press Control And Arrangement For Compressing Particleboard

US Patent:
4724757, Feb 16, 1988
Filed:
Aug 4, 1986
Appl. No.:
6/892314
Inventors:
David W. George - New Castle PA
Assignee:
Wean United, Inc. - Pittsburgh PA
International Classification:
B30B 1522, B30B 700
US Classification:
100 46
Abstract:
A press having a stationary upper bolster and a movable lower bolster carried by two outer and two inner frame plates located near the ends and center of the platens respectively. Through the use of strain gauges measuring the load on the product provided on either sides of each frame plate and servo-operated piston cylinders connected to the lower bolster controlling the output force, a deflection of the lower bolster is made to be parallel to the deflection of the upper bolster so that an equal pressure distribution results in compression therebetween thereby producing a uniform thickness in the product.
