A self adjusting pressure applicator that can be used to retain tissue without causing injury to the tissue and that allows for repositioning of the retained tissue. Such a device can be used in conjunction with a circumcision clamp or other surgical instrument to ensure accurate positioning of the tissue prior to surgical manipulation.
