Method Of Collecting Recyclable Materials

US Patent:
5072833, Dec 17, 1991
Filed:
May 10, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/350085
Inventors:
David Hansen - West Sand Lake NY
Patrick F. Mahoney - Rensselear NY
Assignee:
EAC Systems, Inc. - Albany NY
International Classification:
B07C 502, B30B 1300, B65D 3004
US Classification:
209 33
Abstract:
The present invention concerns a method of collecting recyclable materials and separating recyclable materials from household and commercial refuse for recycling at a recyclable material recovery facility. The method comprises placing recyclable material into a flexible receptacle or container having a rugged construction sufficient to withstand forces experienced under compaction, transfer and dumping, during curbside pick-up, delivery along with mixed solid waste to a delivery point and transferral to a picking station of a solid waste facility. Each flexible receptacle has a predetermined color rendering the flexible receptacle highly visible against and distinguishable from other solid waste. The flexible receptacle is delivered to the delivery point for transferral to a picking station solid waste facility, for the purpose of recycling the recyclable material placed therein. The flexible receptacle is then transferred from the delivery point to the picking station and is then transferred to a material recovery facility, where it is thereafter opened, materials recovered, processed and recycled.

Method Of Collecting Recyclable Materials

US Patent:
5251761, Oct 12, 1993
Filed:
Dec 10, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/805305
Inventors:
David Hansen - West Sand Lake NY
Patrick F. Mahoney - Rensselear NY
Assignee:
EAC Systems, Inc. - Albany NY
International Classification:
B07C 502
US Classification:
209 33
Abstract:
A method of handling recyclable materials through the use of distinctive, and relatively rugged plastic bags is provided. Such bags are furnished to one or more communities as part of a recycling program. The bags preferably include source identification codes particular to each community. The bags are filled with recyclable materials, closed, and left at curb side or other location for pick up by collection equipment. The bags, which may be comingled with other, non-recyclable waste materials, are gathered and compacted in order to reduce the volume thereof. The rugged construction of the bags ensures that a relatively high percentage survive the compaction process without spilling the materials contained therein. Bags are then transported to a delivery point where they are separated from other comingled waste materials. Bags may then be emptied and the materials contained therein recycled.

Pozzolanic Mixture For Stabilizing Landfill Leachate

US Patent:
4917733, Apr 17, 1990
Filed:
Nov 14, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/272134
Inventors:
David L. Hansen - West Sand Lake NY
International Classification:
C05F 300
US Classification:
106 85
Abstract:
A pozzolanic mixture for stabilizing landfill leachate which includes fly ash with an excess of lime, kiln dust, and optionally bottom ash, which is combined with the landfill leachate with a makeup quantity of water to produce a stable cementitious pozzolanic mixture that hardens to a mortar-like material. The hardened material exhibits favorable handling characteristics, and resists leaching of its environmentally hazardous components.
