Fabrication Of Bound Documents

Fabrication Of Bound Documents

US Patent:
5120176, Jun 9, 1992
Filed:
Jul 29, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/737095
Inventors:
Sushil K. Bhatia - Framingham MA
David J. Leahy - Framingham MA
Herman Abber - Brockton MA
Laurence E. Tighe - Milford MA
Assignee:
Dennison Manufacturing Company - Framingham MA
International Classification:
B42C 900, B42B 704, B42D 100
US Classification:
412 8
Abstract:
A bound document is made by placing one or more sheets of paper to be bound inside a binder having a hot-melt adhesive and then exposing the binder to microwave energy for a sufficient period of time to cause the hot-melt adhesive to melt bond onto an edge of the sheets of paper. In one embodiment of the invention, the hot-melt adhesive is microwave activatable. In another embodiment of the invention, the hot-melt adhesive is not necessarily microwave activatable and the binder includes a strip of susceptor material which converts incident microwave radiation to heat. In still another embodiment of the invention, the hot-melt adhesive is not necessarily microwave activatable and a quantity of microwave responsive material is incorporated into the hot-melt adhesive. In still yet another embodiment, the hot-melt adhesive is not necessarily microwave activatable, and a microwave susceptor is incorporated into a stand on which the binder may be placed during exposure to the microwave radiation.

Controlled Pourability Of Fluids

Controlled Pourability Of Fluids

US Patent:
5597090, Jan 28, 1997
Filed:
Nov 25, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/344942
Inventors:
David J. Leahy - Framingham MA
International Classification:
G01F 1100
US Classification:
222 1
Abstract:
Method and appartus for the pouring of liquids by a partially closed shell extending from a base to a rounded and interrupted tip, with partially opened shell sides extending from the base to the tip which is interrupted by a a "V" shaped notch; the shell has a base advantageously inclined with respect to the pouring axis of the shell to permit downward flow of fluid into an aperture that communicates with the opening in the shell; the shell can be a pouring spout covered by a protective cap which is unscrewed and removed to expose the spout and permit fluid to be poured between open sides along the shell and over a sharp, interrupted edge at a tip, by which flow is terminated when the shell is up-righted, so that the sharpness of the interruption and the general configuration of the tip reduce the usual dripping of fluid after a pour.

Picture Frame With Rotatable Easel

Picture Frame With Rotatable Easel

US Patent:
4357769, Nov 9, 1982
Filed:
Mar 12, 1981
Appl. No.:
6/243172
Inventors:
David J. Leahy - Framingham MA
Assignee:
Dennison Manufacturing Company - Framingham MA
International Classification:
G09F 100, A47G 106, A47B 9704
US Classification:
401521
Abstract:
A picture frame for photographic snapshots having a rotatable easel of thin, lightweight construction mounted to the back side of the picture frame. The easel has a substantially trapezoidal shape when folded and has rectangular front and back panels having a common top edge and collapsible, triangular side panels interconnecting the front and back panels. The side panels may be folded, collapsing the easel into a flat structure for easy packaging and shipment. The side panels when unfolded form an easel for holding the picture frame in a stable, secure, upright position on a tabletop. The easel design of the invention produces an unusually stable structure for its weight. It does not collapse upon moving the picture frame in any direction on the table surface. The easel may be rotated to permit display of snapshots in either a horizontal or vertical orientation.
