Philosophy:
What happened to psychiatrists
who talk to their patients?"
That's what patients and doctors all asked me when I started practicing in Plano back in 1996. Did managed care make that a thing of the past? I didn't (and still don't) believe that, so I tried something that few doctors were doing. I began an "old-fashioned" private psychiatric practice, specializing in psychotherapy and focusing on the needs of my patients rather than on those of their insurance companies.
Of course, I use modern psychiatric drugs where appropriate; they provide much needed relief from depression, anxiety and other serious symptoms. However, many people also want and need more than they can get from five-minute medication checks. They want to understand and change things that create those symptoms and change patterns of behavior that keep them from enjoying the fullest and most productive lives they can have.
I remain committed to providing people high quality medical psychotherapy and to helping them find long-term answers to long-term problems.
