Separable Key For Establishing Detachable Printer Component Compatibility With A Printer

US Patent:
2003002, Feb 6, 2003
Filed:
Jul 31, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/919649
Inventors:
Scott Sturgeon - Vancouver WA, US
David Johnson - Portland OR, US
International Classification:
B41J002/01, B41J002/175
US Classification:
347/049000, 347/086000
Abstract:
A separable key element operably secured to a printer component base for receiving a key from a printer component to be received therein. The key indicates a required characteristic of the printer component thereby allowing only compatible printer components to be installed onto the printer component base. The key element can matingly engage the printer component base in a unique configuration such that only compatible key elements can be secured to the printer component base. Moreover, the key element can include a display surface for visually identifying the required characteristic of the printer component. In a preferred embodiment, the printer component is a detachable ink reservoir and the printer component base is secured to the carriage of an inkjet printer, thereby providing an on-axis ink reservoir.

Replaceable Intermediate Transfer Surface Application Assembly

US Patent:
6068372, May 30, 2000
Filed:
Oct 31, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/961813
Inventors:
Gerard H. Rousseau - Portland OR
David W. Johnson - Tigard OR
Richard Brzezinski - Wilsonville OR
Jeffrey R. Kohne - Tualatin OR
Michael S. Allen - Vacouver WA
Brent R. Jones - Tualatin OR
Larry E. Hindman - Woodburn OR
Assignee:
Xerox Corporation - Stamford CT
International Classification:
B41J 201
US Classification:
347103
Abstract:
An improved replaceable liquid application system for applying a liquid intermediate transfer surface to a support surface in a printer is provided. The liquid application system is contained in a removable cassette and utilizes a liquid impregnated arcuate surface that engages the support surface by rolling contact. The liquid impregnated arcuate surface and a reclamation assembly are contained in a removable cartridge in the cassette. A cartridge life status assembly determines when the useful life of the cartridge has been exhausted. Push tabs on the cartridge and finger wells on the cassette allow for easy and convenient removal of a used cartridge and insertion of a replacement cartridge.

Circuit Arrangement With A Processor And At Least Two Read-Write Memories

US Patent:
4800532, Jan 24, 1989
Filed:
Nov 25, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/125628
Inventors:
Karl-Heinz Honeck - Essingen, DE
David Johnson - Portland OR
Manfred Neugebauer - Erlangen, DE
Walter Teutsch - Erlangen, DE
M. Vittal Kini - Portland OR
Steven C. Stacey - Hillsboro OR
Assignee:
Siemens Aktiengesellschaft - Berlin and Munich
International Classification:
G11C 1300
US Classification:
365226
Abstract:
In order for any failure of the power supply unit for two read-write memories which are operable in parallel, not to result in irreversible damage to data, two parallel power supply circuits are provided for the operation of the memories. Each power supply circuit is capable of supplying the operating current of one of the memories and the standby current of the remaining memory. Each of the power supply circuits in the power supply is buffered with capacitors in such a manner that, upon a fault in one of the power supply circuits, the output voltage, as soon as the capacitive buffer declines from a normal operating voltage to a threshold voltage and to a minimum operating voltage, data secure current reducing steps are taken. The capacitive circuits and threshold voltages are selected such that the period of time the voltage takes to decline from the threshold to the minimum operating voltage is longer than the time required to complete the present read-write operation and to save the relevant data into the memory. One of the memories is then put into standby mode by a monitoring device as the output voltage declines to the threshold voltage leaving only one active memory which can be operated from one of the two memory power supply circuits.

Cam Motion Design Without Drivetrain Backlash Reversal

US Patent:
2004000, Jan 1, 2004
Filed:
Jun 26, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/184448
Inventors:
Daniel Park - West Linn OR, US
David Johnson - Tigard OR, US
Assignee:
Xerox Corporation
International Classification:
G03G021/00
US Classification:
399/121000, 399/345000
Abstract:
A cam mechanism for a printer that includes a cam including an active cam surface having a continually increasing radius over an active cam angle, a biased cam follower in contact with the active cam surface, and a drive mechanism for rotating the cam such that only the active cam surface contacts the cam follower.
