American College of Dentists
Fellow
The American College of Dentists (ACD) is the oldest national honorary organization for dentists. Its members have exemplified excellence through outstanding leadership and exceptional contributions to dentistry and society. In response to serious problems facing the profession, the American College of Dentists was founded August 20, 1920, by the then leaders of dentistry to elevate the standards of dentistry, to encourage graduate study, and to grant Fellowship to those who have done meritorious work. The American College of Dentists is nonprofit and apolitical, and has long been regarded as the "conscience of dentistry."
The Convocation ceremony for Dr. Schirmer's induction into The College will take place October 11th, 2011 at the annual meeting of the ACD.
Pierre Fauchard Academy
Fellow
The Pierre Fauchard Academy is an honorary dental service organization that was organized in 1936.
Fellowship in the Academy is by nomination by professional leaders and was designed to be itself an accolade to past accomplishment and an encouragement to future productivity. Contributions to dental literature, service to the profession of dentistry, and service to the general community, thereby bringing credit to dentistry, were among the criteria sought in recruiting new members. The Academy has itself had a publication program, notably through Dental World, and has always encouraged its fellow members to contribute to dental education and dental literature. Through its Foundation, it offers financial support to various dental projects and monetary grants to dental students.
International College of Dentists
Fellow
The International College of Dentists (ICD) is the oldest and largest international honorary dental organization established in 1928 with over 12,000 members (designated as Fellows) around the globe. Fellowship in the College is extended by invitation only and is granted in recognition of a dentist’s “outstanding professional achievement, meritorious service and dedication to the continued progress of dentistry for the benefit of humankind ”.
