Material Treating Apparatus

US Patent:
5238399, Aug 24, 1993
Filed:
Feb 5, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/831426
Inventors:
David H. Long - Springfield OH
Assignee:
Jet-Pro Company, Inc. - Atchison KS
International Classification:
F27B 928
US Classification:
432 59
Abstract:
A material treating apparatus having a treating chamber through which material is continuously displaced over an elongated, horizontally disposed bedplate. The bedplate is formed with a large number of small apertures distributed over the plate and permitting a gaseous treating fluid to flow upwardly through the bedplate and the overlying material to effect its treatment. A distribution chamber for the gaseous fluid underlies and extends the length of the bedplate and connects at one longitudinal end with a source of the fluid. This source induces the gaseous fluid to flow into and then longitudinally through the distribution chamber ultimately exiting through the apertures of the bedplate. A flow control plate is positioned in the distribution chamber adjacent the end through which the gaseous fluid enters. The plate extends horizontally across the chamber and is pivotable about a horizontal axis to a selected angular position to cause the gaseous fluid to flow along a desired path through the distribution chamber.

Pellet Forming Extrusion Apparatus

US Patent:
6099288, Aug 8, 2000
Filed:
Mar 20, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/045039
Inventors:
David H. Long - Springfield OH
Assignee:
MP6, L.L.C. - Fort Lauderdale FL
International Classification:
B29B 900, B29C 4760
US Classification:
425208
Abstract:
A pellet-forming apparatus is provided for extruding high moisture materials in a low-pressure extrusion apparatus having an extruding cylinder and a cooperative extruding rotor. The rotor extends axially through the elongated cylinder and is formed with multi-tier extruding surfaces that are configured and positioned to be radially spaced with respect to the interior surface of the cylinder and form a pressure zone to effect radial displacement of the material through passages formed in the cylinder wall and be extruded exteriorly of the cylinder. The rotor preferably consists of a series of configured plates arranged along a common axis to form a combined auger-shaped extruding rotor. A feed conveyor comprising a helical flight auger is provided in preceding axial relationship to the extruding cylinder for feeding of material into the cylinder without substantial pressure buildup.

Particulate Material Feeder

US Patent:
5316128, May 31, 1994
Filed:
Mar 11, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/667271
Inventors:
David H. Long - Springfield OH
Assignee:
Jet-Pro Company, Inc. - Atchison KS
International Classification:
B65G 4719
US Classification:
198530
Abstract:
A particulate material feeder is provided having a material dispensing hopper cooperating with a continuous conveyor revolving in a vertical plane having a plurality of spaced flights operating over a horizontal bedplate for controlled feeding of material over the bedplate in a uniform thickness layer. The dispensing hopper is positioned in longitudinal alignment with the conveyor at one end thereof and has a discharge throat located a distance vertically above the bedplate with a transfer plate extending from the throat to the bedplate with a portion of the transfer plate at its end joining with the bedplate being arcuately curved in conformity to the path of movement of the conveyor flights. The dispensing hopper has a selectively positionable valve plate that is adjusted to and maintained at a position with respect to the throat for control of the depth of material displaced over the bedplate.

System And Method For Processing Meat

US Patent:
6939216, Sep 6, 2005
Filed:
Aug 29, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/230930
Inventors:
David H. Long - Springfield OH, US
International Classification:
A22B003/00
US Classification:
452 52
Abstract:
A system and method is shown for processing animals, such as calves, from birth to slaughter by utilizing hot-fed rations during the feeding process. The system and method reduces or eliminates the need to use hormones and simultaneously reduces or eliminates the need to sterilize the meat products. Each calf or animal is weaned at a weaning station, fed at a feeding station, slaughtered at a slaughter station to provide a carcass that is substantially the same size as other carcasses for the same breed of animal processed in the system. The consistent carcass size enables manufacture of consistent carcasses which, in turn, facilitates providing substantially the same size meat cuts. This feature enables use of a standard-size packaging, such as a case-ready package, which may be shipped for display and purchase at a store.

Fluidized Bed Particulate Material Treating Apparatus

US Patent:
5161315, Nov 10, 1992
Filed:
Nov 22, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/796905
Inventors:
David H. Long - Springfield OH
Assignee:
Jet-Pro Company, Inc. - Atchison KS
International Classification:
F26B 1700
US Classification:
34 57A
Abstract:
A fluidized bed particulate material treating apparatus is provided having a fluidizing bedplate formed with apertures of a frusto-conical configuration. The apertures are formed with walls divergent from an exit end at an angle in the range of 25-45 degrees with a plurality of apertures formed in the bedplate in closely spaced relationship resulting in interaction of the airflow from the apertures to levitate the material as it is transported over the bed by the air flowing through the apertures.

Material Drying Process

US Patent:
5596815, Jan 28, 1997
Filed:
Jun 2, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/252999
Inventors:
Garland G. Rice - Atchison KS
David H. Long - Springfield OH
Assignee:
Jet-Pro Company, Inc. - Atchison KS
International Classification:
F26B 300, F26B 700
US Classification:
34346
Abstract:
A process is provided for drying raw material that comprises solids and a substantial amount of moisture. The process in its basic form involves the steps of forming the raw material into pellets by extrusion under pressure through a forming die into pellets with the solids compacted into a cohesively secured mass and then drying the pellets thus formed to reduce the moisture to a desired percentage. Raw material that has an excessive amount of moisture such that they cannot be extruded are first mixed with a dry material to reduce the moisture content to the point where they can be extruded.
