Detection Of An Rfid Device By An Rf Reader Unit Operating In A Reduced Power State

US Patent:
6476708, Nov 5, 2002
Filed:
Mar 20, 1998
Appl. No.:
09/045860
Inventors:
David A. Johnson - Thornton CO
Assignee:
HID Corporation - Irvine CA
International Classification:
E05B 4900
US Classification:
340 1034, 340 562, 3405724
Abstract:
A method is provided for operating an RF transponder system to detect the presence of an RFID device in the proximal space of an RF reader unit having an excitation signal generator circuit and an RFID device detection circuit. The excitation signal generator circuit unit initially operates in a reduced power state, generating ring signals in response to a reduced electrical current and transmitting the ring signals into the proximal space. The RFID device detection circuit evaluates the ring signals to determine variations in an RFID device detection parameter. When the variations pass a variation threshold level due to the presence of the RFID device, the ring signals are terminated and the excitation signal generator circuit switches to an increased power state, wherein the excitation signal generator circuit generates an RF excitation signal which is transmitted to the RFID device.

System And Method For Performing Motion Capture By Strobing A Fluorescent Lamp

US Patent:
7567293, Jul 28, 2009
Filed:
Jun 7, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/449043
Inventors:
Stephen G. Perlman - Palo Alto CA, US
John Speck - Sunnyvale CA, US
Roger Van der Laan - Menlo Park CA, US
David Allan Johnson - Thornton CO, US
Assignee:
OnLive, Inc. - Palo Alto CA
International Classification:
H04N 5/222, H04N 9/04, H04N 5/228, H04N 5/225, H04N 5/262
US Classification:
348371, 34820814, 348370, 34820799, 3482181, 348239
Abstract:
A system and method are described for performing motion capture on a subject using fluorescent lamps. For example, a system according to one embodiment of the invention comprises: a synchronization signal generator to generate one or more synchronization signals; one or more fluorescent lamps configured to strobe on and off responsive to a first one of the one or more synchronization signals, the fluorescent lamps charging phosphorescent makeup, paint or dye applied to a subject for a motion capture session; and a plurality of cameras having shutters strobed synchronously with the strobing of the light source to capture images of the phosphorescent paint, wherein the shutters are open when the light source is off and the shutters are closed when the light source is on.

Transient Voltage Protection And Ground Status Monitoring Apparatus And Method

US Patent:
7023680, Apr 4, 2006
Filed:
Oct 29, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/605817
Inventors:
David Allan Johnson - Thornton CO, US
Pine Marion Brummett - Brooksville FL, US
Assignee:
PSG Enterprises, Inc. - Spring Hill FL
International Classification:
H02H 1/00
US Classification:
361111, 324 74, 340649
Abstract:
In accordance with the present invention, a method is provided whereby the transient voltages presented at the input to a watt-hour meter are suppressed to prevent damage to the watt-hour meter and to the electronic devices that are powered through the watt-hour meter. In addition to transient voltage protection, the method of the present invention also provides monitoring of the earth ground resistance, voltage and current of the earth ground conductor associated with the watt-hour meter. As such, voltage transients are suppressed when presented at the watt-hour meter through the power line input, ground resistance of the earth ground conductor in continuously monitored and the current and voltage conditions existing on the ground conductor are continuously monitored. Visual and audible indicators are provided to indicate quality issues with the grounding system and the effectiveness of the surge suppressor/arrestor.

Apparatus For Dissolving A Solid Material In A Liquid

US Patent:
2005018, Aug 25, 2005
Filed:
Feb 19, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/780719
Inventors:
Brent McCurdy - Bryn Athyn PA, US
Mario DeBerardinis - Moorestown NJ, US
David Johnson - Thornton CO, US
International Classification:
B01F015/02
US Classification:
366153100
Abstract:
An apparatus for dissolving a solid material in a liquid including a container for receiving the solid material and the liquid. A turbidimeter measures the turbidity of the liquid in the container. A blender stirs the liquid in the container until the turbidity thereof, as measured by the turbidimeter, reaches a predetermined level. A level sensor gauges the level of liquid in the container and causes a valve to admit liquid into the container when the liquid level falls.

Coupled Transponder And Antenna System And Method

US Patent:
2004001, Jan 29, 2004
Filed:
Dec 16, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/320794
Inventors:
David Johnson - Thornton CO, US
Joseph Letkomiller - Thornton CO, US
Richard Pollack - Boulder CO, US
International Classification:
B60C019/00
US Classification:
152/152100, 340/442000
Abstract:
Annular apparatus comprises a toroidal body composed of a material having high electromagnetic permeability and the body a through bore; an electrical device coupled to the toroidal body; and a loop antenna disposed to extend through the through bore in direct magnetic coupled relationship with the toroidal body. The loop antenna is in a mechanically de-coupled relationship with the toroidal body and lies substantially in a first plane that intersects the toroidal body opening at a right angle. In one embodiment, the electrical device comprises a transponder for monitoring cavity parameters in a pneumatic tire.
