Increasing The Capacity Of A Personal Communication Service System By Utilization Of The Bridged Shared Line Appearance Feature

Increasing The Capacity Of A Personal Communication Service System By Utilization Of The Bridged Shared Line Appearance Feature

US Patent:
5758284, May 26, 1998
Filed:
Nov 30, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/565797
Inventors:
David Lee Chavez - Thornton CO
Michael Ray Ross - Westminster CO
Assignee:
Lucent Technologies Inc. - Murray Hill NJ
International Classification:
N04M 1100
US Classification:
455445
Abstract:
Utilizing a bridged line appearance feature in a switching system to allow additional individual PCS systems to be added as the number of wireless sets increases. For each wireless set, a bridged line appearance is administered in the switching system having a group of shared line appearance telephone links where the number of telephone links in each group is equal to the number of individual PCS systems. When the switching system receives a call for a particular wireless set, the switching system signals the incoming call on each telephone link that is part of the shared line appearance group for that particular wireless set. The PCS system on which the particular wireless set is presently registered responds to the incoming call signal by establishing a call between the particular wireless set and the incoming call. During the call, if the wireless set physically moves and establishes communications with a base station of another PCS system, the other PCS system becomes active on the shared line appearance telephone link assigned to the wireless set on the other PCS system. The original PCS system becomes inactive on the shared line appearance telephone link associated with the wireless set when the wireless set transfers itself to the other PCS system.

Call Pickup Group Controlled By Wireless Terminals

Call Pickup Group Controlled By Wireless Terminals

US Patent:
6292672, Sep 18, 2001
Filed:
Oct 29, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/182339
Inventors:
David L. Chavez - Thornton CO
Assignee:
Avaya Technology Corp. - Basking Ridge NJ
International Classification:
H04B 700, H04Q 720
US Classification:
455519
Abstract:
A wireless terminal dynamically positions itself into a call pickup group based on the location of the wireless terminal. Similarly, a wireless terminal dynamically removes itself from a call pickup group on the basis of the location of the wireless terminal. A wireless terminal can be excluded from joining a call pickup group in a specific location. The wireless terminal positions itself into the call pickup group by communicating information with other wireless terminals already in the call pickup group. This communication is controlled by a controlling wireless terminal with which the wireless terminal first communicates upon entering the location. The wireless terminal determines its position by communication with a fixed unit assigned to the location of call pickup group. Upon determining that it is leaving the location, the wireless terminal transmits a message to controlling wireless terminal to inform it of this fact. In turn, the controlling wireless terminal transmits messages to the other wireless terminals to inform them of the departure of the wireless terminal.
