Method And Apparatus For Fluid Entrainment

Method And Apparatus For Fluid Entrainment

US Patent:
6520259, Feb 18, 2003
Filed:
Oct 11, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/975204
Inventors:
Jeremy Mathew Rasmussen - Lapeer MI 48446
James R. Burns - Haslett MI 48540
David Lawrence Schroder - Sylvania OH 43560
Daniel William Oberle - Sylvania OH 43560
International Classification:
E21B 4300
US Classification:
166310, 166 54, 166 881, 1661056, 1663344
Abstract:
The present invention presents an improved method and apparatus for liquid entrainment by a two-phase flow system. The present invention provides an apparatus that recovers liquids by entrainment without experiencing deadhead conditions, choking or dry recovery due to fluctuations in the elevation of the liquid level. The apparatus provides self-regulated two-phase recovery of gas and liquid by construction design, thus eliminating the need for manual adjustments or electronically controlled devices. The enhanced venturi effects of the present invention enhance liquid lift while maintaining the gas recovery point above the liquid at all times to eliminate deadhead conditions.

Method For Treatment Of Pollutants Using Iron-Impregnated, Carbon-Coated, Silica Sand

Method For Treatment Of Pollutants Using Iron-Impregnated, Carbon-Coated, Silica Sand

US Patent:
6770205, Aug 3, 2004
Filed:
Aug 7, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/213637
Inventors:
David Lawrence Schroder - Sylvania OH 43560
Daniel William Oberle - Sylvania OH 43560
James R. Burns - Haslett MI 48840
Thomas Barton Cole - Kewadin MI 49648
International Classification:
C02F 128
US Classification:
210668, 134 7, 210679, 210694, 210747, 4051285
Abstract:
A method for pollutants using an iron-impregnated, carbon-coated silica sand with the iron containing between to and 16 percent silicon. The invention provides an improved method for performing remeditation of pollutants by dissolved metal reactions while minimizing interferences caused by oxide fouling from oxygen in the water or in the atmosphere. The invention further provides an inexpensive media with high surface area for adsorptive fixation and reductive treatment that yields higher than anticipated reaction kinetics utilizing only low concentrations of iron in the media.

Process For Soil Decontamination By Oxidation And Vacuum Extraction

Process For Soil Decontamination By Oxidation And Vacuum Extraction

US Patent:
5615974, Apr 1, 1997
Filed:
Apr 4, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/211559
Inventors:
Christopher A. Land - Newton NJ
Joseph A. Pezzullo - Langhorne PA
James J. Malot - Dorado, PR
Louis C. Papa - Cherry Hill NJ
Daniel Oberle - Sylvania OH
Assignee:
Terra Vac, Inc. - San Juan
International Classification:
B09B 300
US Classification:
405128
Abstract:
A process for in situ treatment of a contaminated subsurface zone of the earth containing volatile liquid or semisolid organic contaminants, semivolatile liquid or semisolid organic contaminants and/or nonvolatile organic contaminants in liquid, semisolid and/or solidified form which comprises treating said contaminants with an oxidant such as hydrogen peroxide and conducting vacuum extraction to remove volatilized contaminants, volatilized oxidation products of contaminants and/or liquid oxidation products of contaminants. The oxidant application may be made in a contaminated subsurface vadose zone, a contaminated subsurface capillary fringe or beneath the surface of a contaminated water table. Vacuum extraction may be conducted in the contaminated zone itself or, in the vadose zone directly above the contaminated capillary fringe or the contaminated water table and may be utilized, e. g. , to withdraw water containing oxidation products of contaminants.

Soil Remediation By Permanganate Oxidation

Soil Remediation By Permanganate Oxidation

US Patent:
6315494, Nov 13, 2001
Filed:
Oct 24, 2000
Appl. No.:
9/695335
Inventors:
Daniel W. Oberle - Sylvania OH
International Classification:
B09C 108, B09C10100
US Classification:
4051285
Abstract:
The permanganate ion and an alkaline earth metal base of calcium and/or magnesium are distributed into the soil by a means of mechanical mixing to destroy contaminants in the soil and groundwater by chemical oxidation. The disclosed method produces a stable, post-treatment, manganese dioxide precipitate that does not adversely effect the ground water with high dissolved manganese concentrations. The permanganate salts may include potassium, magnesium or sodium permanganate, and the preferred alkaline earth metal bases may include calcium oxide, calcium hydroxide, magnesium oxide and magnesium hydroxide. Dolomite quick lime may be used to supply an inexpensive source of the desired calcium and/or magnesium base. The calcium and/or magnesium base may be added before, during or after the addition of the permanganate salt.
