Advanced Elevated Feed Distribution System For Very Large Diameter Rcc Reactor Risers

US Patent:
2008008, Apr 3, 2008
Filed:
Sep 29, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/541052
Inventors:
Daniel N. Myers - Arlington Heights IL, US
Paolo Palmas - Des Plaines IL, US
Daniel R. Johnson - Schaumburg IL, US
Peter J. Van Opdorp - Naperville IL, US
International Classification:
F27B 15/08
US Classification:
422145
Abstract:
An FCC process and apparatus may include injecting hydrocarbon feedstock at different radial positions inside a riser. Multiple distributors may be used to position the openings for injecting feedstock at multiple radial positions. In addition, the openings may be away from riser peripheral wall and at different elevations along the riser wall or extending up from the riser bottom. The different opening positions introduce the feedstock across a larger area of the cross-section of the riser, which may improve the feedstock dispersion and mixing with catalyst. Improved mixing may increase conversion of the feedstock. Larger FCC units generally have greater riser diameters that may cause problems for feedstock dispersion and decrease the ability for the feedstock to mix with catalyst. Injecting the feedstock at multiple radial positions may improve feedstock dispersion in larger FCC units and increase mixing.

Hydrocarbon Conversion Apparatus Including Fluid Bed Reaction Vessel And Related Processes

US Patent:
2012023, Sep 20, 2012
Filed:
Mar 18, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/051854
Inventors:
Paolo Palmas - Des Plaines IL, US
Daniel Robert Johnson - Schaumburg IL, US
Clayton C. Sadler - Arlington Heights IL, US
Assignee:
UOP LLC - Des Plaines IL
International Classification:
C10G 71/00, B01J 8/00
US Classification:
208 46, 422129, 422211, 422187
Abstract:
Embodiments of a hydrocarbon conversion apparatus are provided, as are embodiments of a hydroprocessing conversion process. In one embodiment, the hydrocarbon conversion apparatus includes a reaction vessel having a reaction chamber and a feed distribution chamber. A riser fluidly couples the feed distribution chamber to the reaction chamber, and a catalyst recirculation standpipe fluidly couples the reaction chamber to the feed distribution chamber. The catalyst recirculation standpipe forms a catalyst recirculation circuit with the reaction chamber, the feed distribution chamber, and the riser. A catalyst is circulated through the catalyst recirculation circuit during operation of the hydrocarbon conversion apparatus.

Contained Separation System For Fcc Reaction Downcomer

US Patent:
5843377, Dec 1, 1998
Filed:
Aug 26, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/703236
Inventors:
James A. Fandel - Schaumburg IL
David A. Lomas - Barrington IL
Steven Niewiedzial - Hoffman Estates IL
Daniel R. Johnson - Schaumburg IL
James Althoff - Arlington Heights IL
Assignee:
UOP LLC - Des Plaines IL
International Classification:
F27B 1508
US Classification:
422144
Abstract:
An FCC separation arrangement for a catalyst and hydrocarbon contacting zone having a downcomer terminus section uses a compact separation vessel to provide a quick separation between catalyst and hydrocarbon gases in a compact area that also accommodates the use of cyclone separators for a further removal of catalyst from the hydrocarbon gases. The separation system uses a gas collection conduit that incorporates an expansion element for accommodating differential growth between the riser separation vessel and cyclones in the same compact area. The system is suitable for single downcomers or multiple downcomers. The system can be used with a closed containment vessel or in an entirely open system that eliminates the use of a containment vessel.

Baffles For Improving Riser Hydrodynamics

US Patent:
2013028, Oct 24, 2013
Filed:
Apr 20, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/452093
Inventors:
Daniel R. Johnson - Schaumburg IL, US
Lev Davydov - Northbrook IL, US
Assignee:
UOP LLC - Des Plaines IL
International Classification:
F27B 15/02
US Classification:
422144
Abstract:
Fluid catalytic cracking units having risers with improved hydrodynamics through the use of baffles are described. The baffles break up the high concentration of catalyst in the slower moving outer annulus and redistribute it into the faster moving, more dilute center of the riser flow.

Process For Mixing Regenerated And Carbonized Catalyst

US Patent:
8323477, Dec 4, 2012
Filed:
Sep 30, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/241294
Inventors:
Keith A. Couch - Arlington Heights IL, US
Kelly D. Seibert - Carpentersville IL, US
Robert L. Mehlberg - Wheaton IL, US
Daniel R. Johnson - Schaumburg IL, US
Assignee:
UOP LLC - Des Plaines IL
International Classification:
C10G 11/00
US Classification:
208113, 208119, 208153, 208158, 208164, 208213, 422141, 422144, 422145, 422219
Abstract:
A process for mixing regenerated and carbonized catalyst involves obstructing upward flow of catalyst by one or more baffles between a catalyst inlet and a feed distributor. Each catalyst stream may be passed to opposite sides of a riser. Baffles obstruct upward flow to effect mixing of regenerated and carbonized catalyst to obtain a more uniform temperature and catalyst mixture before contacting the feed.
