Deployable Seating Arrangement

US Patent:
6324790, Dec 4, 2001
Filed:
Sep 1, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/388839
Inventors:
Daniel R. Victor - Kalamazoo MI
Melvin J. Guiles - Plainwell MI
Kenneth A. Ahrens - Schoolcraft MI
Assignee:
Interkal, Inc. - Kalamazoo MI
International Classification:
E04H 312
US Classification:
52 9
Abstract:
A deployable seating arrangement employs a plurality of seating level members that are arranged in sequentially elevated relation to one another. When the deployable seating arrangement is in an undeployed state, the seating level members are disposed substantially directly beneath one another in stacked relation. When in a deployed condition, each seating level member is disposed beneath and forward of an immediately superior seating level member in stepped relation. Each of the seating level members has associated therewith a plurality of L-shaped frame elements that are formed of vertical and horizontal portions. A roller is installed at the upper end of the vertical portion for engaging with the underside of the horizontal portion of an immediately superior seating level member. A drive arrangement having a wide track motor drive urges the seating level members, which are installed on a plurality of respective wheeled frame arrangements, into deployed and undeployed states. Each wheeled frame arrangement is arranged laterally inward of a wheeled frame arrangement associated with an immediately superior seating level member.

Self-Storing Handrail Assembly For Telescoping Seat Assembly

US Patent:
6854216, Feb 15, 2005
Filed:
Mar 18, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/391720
Inventors:
Kenneth A. Ahrens - Mattawan MI, US
Richard A. Vance - Carmel IN, US
David McCoy - Battle Creek MI, US
Daniel R. Victor - Kalamazoo MI, US
Assignee:
Interkal, LLC - Kalamazoo MI
International Classification:
E04H003/12
US Classification:
52 9, 52 8, 52183
Abstract:
A self-storing telescoping seat assembly is disclosed which comprises rows of seating movable between a retracted position where the rows of seating are generally stacked on top of one another, to an extended position and a handrail assembly affixed to a corresponding row of seating in a single assembled position with respect to that row. The handrail assembly stays in the single assembled position as the rows move between the extended position and the retracted position. The handrail assembly can have a top handrail and a lower handrail which cooperate to form an opening, and the opening is preferably adapted to receive the front face of a deck of a row of seating when the rows of seating are in the retracted position. A front face can be formed by the rows of seating in the retracted position, and the handrail assembly has a post which preferably extends in front of the front face when the rows of seating are in the retracted position. The handrail assembly can also have the top handrail and bottom handrail extend in front of the front face of the corresponding deck.

Railing System For Telescopic Seating

US Patent:
5813663, Sep 29, 1998
Filed:
Aug 20, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/704493
Inventors:
Daniel R. Victor - Kalamazoo MI
Stanley W. McKay - Richland MI
Melvin J. Guiles - Casnovia MI
Kenneth A. Ahrens - Schoolcraft MI
Assignee:
Interkal, Inc. - Kalamazoo MI
International Classification:
E04H 1700
US Classification:
256 59
Abstract:
A railing system for a telescopic seating arrangement, such as bleacher systems and platform seating systems. The railing system includes discrete lightweight and readily stowable uprights, each having a single closed-loop upper section. Brackets carried by the nose of decks receive a plate affixed to the lower end of each upright. The brackets which support the uprights have a low profile so that the seating system is readily useable if the uprights are not installed. The lightweight and easily stowed uprights of this railing system eliminate the factors which lead to use of a seating system without handrails.

Telescopic Seating System With Aisle Hand Rails

US Patent:
6185875, Feb 13, 2001
Filed:
Jan 14, 2000
Appl. No.:
9/480966
Inventors:
Daniel R. Victor - Kalamazoo MI
Stanley W. McKay - Richland MI
Melvin J. Guiles - Casnovia MI
Kenneth A. Ahrens - Schoolcraft MI
Assignee:
Interkal, Inc. - Kalamazoo MI
International Classification:
E04H 312
US Classification:
52 9
Abstract:
A telescopic seating system with aisle rails in the form of discrete and lightweight uprights. A telescopic seating system, such as a bleacher system or a platform seating system, is equipped with a series of uprights, which are easily movable to positions whereby the seating system can be retracted. The railing system includes discrete lightweight and movable uprights, each having a single closed-loop upper section. The noses of the decks upon which rows of seating are mounted have sockets which receive the lower end of each upright and support the uprights in the aisles of the seating system. Because the uprights are lightweight, discrete and easily moveable, the tendency to use the seating system without installing the handrails is reduced or eliminated.
