Telephone Loudspeaker Enclosure

US Patent:
6526150, Feb 25, 2003
Filed:
Jul 10, 1998
Appl. No.:
09/113538
Inventors:
Daniel B. Kelly - Round Rock TX
Jason B. Kihneman - Austin TX
Wayne E. McKinnon - Georgetown TX
Assignee:
Siemens Information Communication Mobile, LLC - San Diego CA
International Classification:
A04R 2500
US Classification:
381353, 455568, 455569, 379430, 379433, 381392, 381345, 381386, 381354
Abstract:
An apparatus for a microphone and speaker is provided which provides a sealed chamber behind the speaker to prevent sound waves behind the speaker from cancelling sound waves in front of the speaker. In addition, the apparatus is configured to mechanically isolate the speaker from the apparatus housing in order to improve performance of the system. A pliant material such as a damping material with a relatively linear compression characteristic, such as a thermal plastic elastomer, may be used to isolate the speaker from the apparatus housing as well as providing a relatively air tight chamber behind the speaker.

System And Method For Testing An Assembled Telephone

US Patent:
6546244, Apr 8, 2003
Filed:
Nov 19, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/444033
Inventors:
Stuart Yoder - Austin TX
James Charles Baros - Round Rock TX
Daniel Bryan Kelly - Round Rock TX
Assignee:
Siemens Information Communication Mobile, LLC - San Diego CA
International Classification:
H04Q 720
US Classification:
455425, 455423, 455 674, 379 2701, 379 2704
Abstract:
A method for testing an assembled telephone ( ) includes activating the telephone ( ) and automatically transmitting a poll command from a processor ( ) of the telephone on a bus ( ) of the telephone ( ). The method also includes receiving a test command from a testing device connected to the bus ( ) in response to the poll command. The test command is operable to automatically initiate a test of the telephone ( ). The method further includes automatically initiating a standard operational mode of the telephone ( ) if the test command is not received by the processor ( ) in response to the poll command.

User Selectable Unidirectional/Omnidirectional Microphone Housing

US Patent:
5933510, Aug 3, 1999
Filed:
Oct 2, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/942974
Inventors:
David E. Bryant - Austin TX
Daniel Bryan Kelly - Austin TX
Assignee:
Siemens Information and Communication Networks, Inc. - Boca Raton FL
International Classification:
H04R 2500
US Classification:
381356
Abstract:
A housing (100) for a unidirectional microphone (102) is described which has an enclosure (104, 106) for holding the unidirectional microphone. The enclosure has a first plurality of apertures (108, 110, 114) for transmitting acoustic energy to the front and back of the unidirectional microphone. An assembly (116) is movably coupled to the enclosure which, in a first position, facilitates transmission of acoustic energy to both the front and the back of the unidirectional microphone via a first subset of the first plurality of apertures thereby facilitating unidirectional operation. In a second position the assembly inhibits transmission of acoustic energy to the back of the unidirectional microphone by blocking a second subset of the plurality of apertures thereby facilitating omnidirectional operation.

Method And System For Distinguishing Valid Dtmf Signals From Spurious Dtmf Noise

US Patent:
6115464, Sep 5, 2000
Filed:
Oct 29, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/960409
Inventors:
Leland Lester - Austin TX
David Iglehart - Austin TX
Daniel B. Kelly - Austin TX
Tave Pearce Dunn - Austin TX
Assignee:
Siemens Information and Communication Networks, Inc. - Boca Raton FL
International Classification:
H04M 300, H04M 500
US Classification:
379283
Abstract:
A method and system for distinguishing valid DTMF signals from spurious DTMF noise includes detecting signals having a first signal component indicative of DTMF signals and having a second signal component having frequencies unrelated to DTMF frequencies. The second component is utilized in isolation from the DTMF frequencies of the first signal component. The analysis includes determining a signal level representative of the second signal component. If the signal level exceeds a predetermined threshold level, the first signal component is determined to be spurious noise. On the other hand, if the signal level is below the threshold level, the first signal component is passed to a DTMF-responsive system, such as a voicemail system or a voice response unit. Optionally, the operation includes requesting confirmation of the signal of interest, if the signal level of the second signal component falls within a range which includes the threshold level as its upper limit.
