As a board certified Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrician with 30 years of experience taking care of children and families I am dedicated to a family centered approach to health care and a biopsychosocial approach. Family centered care values collaboration rather than control, highlights strengths as well as challenges, and emphasizes partnerships with families rather than "doctor as expert." Families are the experts when it comes to their children. However, I am also dedicated to a scientific and research based perspective to health care and while parents have the right and obligation to choose what's right for their children I will only recommend therapies and interventions that I believe are adequately supported by research. For something to work for a challenge or concern it has to "make sense" (why would this work for a condition), it has to have been adequately researched, and it has to cause no harm.
