Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine is obviously very serious business with rapidly advancing technology, equipment, procedural techniques, and medications applied to a very sick patient population. Some of these advances have allowed many of my patients to lead more productive, happier lives. However, pulmonary outpatients are some of the sickest with serious, life-shortening illnesses including lung cancer, pulmonary fibrosis, emphysema, etc. In the hospital, I am involved in the care of the sickest trauma, surgical, medical, and obstetric patients and I value working with my colleagues as we care for our patients. Despite the technology, the gravity of the situations, and the constraints of time; I find that the most important thing that I do is talking and listening to my patients and the families. Practicing my profession is an honor, helping to guide patients and their families through the most difficult of times for now over twenty years. I look forward to continuing this personal mission with Saint Alphonsus.
