Elastomeric Polybutylene Polymer

US Patent:
H15830, Aug 6, 1996
Filed:
Jun 1, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/070076
Inventors:
Charles C. Hwo - Sugar Land TX
Dale J. Wilpers - Houston TX
Assignee:
Shell Oil Company - Houston TX
International Classification:
C08F 1008
US Classification:
5263486
Abstract:
It is herein disclosed a novel elastomeric polybutylene-1 having and exhibiting syndiotacticity of greater than ten percent, and possessing other desirable properties. The novel elastomeric polybutylene-1 can be blended with compatible materials such as polypropylene and its copolymers, ethylene-propylene block copolymers, butyl rubbers and polyisobutylene. Such compositions are particularly suitable in films, hot melt adhesives, textile and fiber applications. The novel elastomeric polybutylene-1 can also be blended with incompatible materials such as ethylenically unsaturated esters (EVA, EMA, EMAA, EEA), polyester, nylon, polystyrene, styrene block copolymers (SEBS, SIS, SBS) and polyethylenes into a composition having soft and improved elastic properties. Such blends are particularly useful in easy-open packaging and foam applications, and in PVC replacement. When oriented, films made of such blends are used as soft and elastic shrink films.

Process For Oilseed Extraction With An Isopropanol-Based Solvent

US Patent:
4298540, Nov 3, 1981
Filed:
Dec 15, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/216418
Inventors:
Kun C. Youn - Houston TX
Dale J. Wilpers - Houston TX
Assignee:
Shell Oil Company - Houston TX
International Classification:
A23J 114
US Classification:
2604124
Abstract:
A simplified, energy efficient process for regulating the composition of recycle solvent obtained by the phase separation of the extract of oilseed extraction with an isopropanol-based solvent. In the extraction of oilseeds with such a solvent, there is obtained, by cooling of the extract, a solvent-rich liquid phase. The invention provides for regulation of the composition of this phase for purposes of solvent recycle by a process which comprises steps for dividing the phase into a first fraction (between about 60 and 95 percent) and a second fraction (between about 5 and 40 percent), directly recycling the first fraction as solvent for further extraction, distilling the second fraction to recover an overhead vapor-consisting essentially of a constant boiling mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water and a bottoms liquid, and condensing and recycling said overhead as solvent for further extraction. In combination, the first fraction and overhead product solvent recycle streams have a very desirable composition of several extraction system components.

Cocracked Polymer Blend And Products Produced Therefrom

US Patent:
5359004, Oct 25, 1994
Filed:
Sep 2, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/116105
Inventors:
Dale J. Wilpers - Houston TX
Charles C. Hwo - Sugar Land TX
Assignee:
Shell Oil Company - Houston TX
International Classification:
C08L 2326
US Classification:
525194
Abstract:
A method of producing a polyolefin blend, such as a polypropylene-polybutylene blend comprising preferentially cracking the polybutylene component with the aid of a cracking agent at a temperature sufficient to induce preferential cracking. The blend produced by the method of this invention has improved optical properties, shrinkage, and processability.

Functionalized Modified High Melt Flow Polyolefins

US Patent:
H14192, Feb 7, 1995
Filed:
Oct 16, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/961966
Inventors:
Dale J. Wilpers - Houston TX
Charles C. Hwo - Sugar Land TX
Robert W. Lee - Houston TX
William H. Korcz - Houston TX
Simon Mostert - Santa Fe NM
Assignee:
Shell Oil Company - Houston TX
International Classification:
C08L 2300
US Classification:
525240
Abstract:
It is herein provided a polymer composition having and exhibiting improved bonding to incompatible materials comprising functionalized high melt flow polyolefins and unfunctionalized polyolefins. More specifically, these compositions have and exhibit improved adhesion to polar materials, and improved dyeability and printability.

Post-Reactor Stabilization Of Polyolefins

US Patent:
4960617, Oct 2, 1990
Filed:
Apr 3, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/331761
Inventors:
Ananda M. Chatterjee - Houston TX
Dale J. Wilpers - Houston TX
Assignee:
Shell Oil Company - Houston TX
International Classification:
B05D 700
US Classification:
427222
Abstract:
The present invention includes a coated polyolefin particle and a method for post-reactor stabilization of polyolefins comprising: melting a polyolefin wax; blending at least one additive into the liquid polyolefin wax; fluidizing polyolefin particles to be stabilized with a hot gas; spraying the liquid polyolefin wax containing at least one additive on the fluidized polyolefin particles, and forming at least partially coated polymer particles; maintaining the at least partially coated polymer particles and fluidized polyolefin particles at a temperature which is sufficiently high to prevent the formation of fibers from the wax and which enhances the formation of stabilized polymer particles.
