Distal Femoral Cutting Guide

Distal Femoral Cutting Guide

US Patent:
8529573, Sep 10, 2013
Filed:
Jun 16, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/134824
Inventors:
Craig M. McAllister - Kirkland WA, US
Steven Jacobson - Dupont WA, US
International Classification:
A61B 17/58, A61B 17/60, A61F 2/00
US Classification:
606 88, 606 89
Abstract:
A device and a method for establishing a position and orientation for a preliminary saw cut in a distal end of a femur to prepare the femur for installation of a prosthetic knee joint. A guide block defining a cutting plane is carried on an adjustably positioned locating arm that is supported on an alignment body that can be mounted on a femur either with or without an intramedullary rod in place in the distal end of the femur. Adjustment screws and horizontal slots in the alignment body provide for varus/valgus angular adjustment of the position of the alignment body. An adjustment guide block may have a saw guiding face defining a differently oriented cutting plane.

Apparatus And Method For Creating A Dome Tibial Osteotomy

Apparatus And Method For Creating A Dome Tibial Osteotomy

US Patent:
6190390, Feb 20, 2001
Filed:
Oct 29, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/429248
Inventors:
Craig M. McAllister - Kirkland WA
Assignee:
Howmedica Osteonics Corp. - Allendale NJ
International Classification:
A61B 1756
US Classification:
606 87
Abstract:
An instrument system and a method for creating a dome osteotomy having a semi-cylindrical surface contour configuration with an arcuate profile configuration at a selected location on a proximal tibia utilize a first guide component having a plurality of apertures placed along an arc which follows the arcuate profile configuration of the dome osteotomy and a cannula received in each aperture for establishing an array of parallel drill holes forming a pattern for the surface contour configuration of the dome osteotomy. A second guide component includes a slot which follows the arcuate profile configuration of the dome osteotomy and which is juxtaposed with the array of drill holes to guide osteotomes along the slot and into the tibia to create the surface contour configuration of the dome osteotomy. The osteotomes have a lateral curved configuration for following the arcuate profile configuration and footed osteotomes are used to reach behind the patellar tendon for completing the full dome osteotomy.

Device And Method For Mounting An Object On A Bone

US Patent:
2008016, Jul 3, 2008
Filed:
Dec 28, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/647921
Inventors:
Craig M. McAllister - Kirkland WA, US
Steven Jacobson - Dupont WA, US
International Classification:
A61B 17/00, A61B 17/56, A61B 17/58
US Classification:
606 83, 606 53, 606 80, 606 96
Abstract:
A device for removable attachment to a bone of a living patient, useful as a mounting support for a trackable part of a computerized surgical navigation system and a method for attaching an object removably to a bone of a living patient. A shaft having a self drilling, self-tapping screw tip can be inserted transversely of the bone and securely screwed into the cortex. A screw drives a sharp-edged sleeve along the shaft to engage the near cortex. A stepping mechanism allows incremental angular movement of a portion of an adjustment mechanism and indicates when the sleeve is securely engaged by resisting further tightening.
