Assignee:
Westinghouse Air Brake Company - Wilmerding PA
International Classification:
B61C 900
US Classification:
364484
Abstract:
In an electronically controlled RAILWAY locomotive throttle controller system having a central processor unit and a plurality of trainlines, such trainlines carrying binary voltage signals derived from corresponding binary signals in such central processor unit, a method for transmitting, for a group of said trainlines, herein numbered as NT, the binary voltage signals back to such central processor unit for diagnostic purposes. Such method includes the steps of applying, for the group of NT trainlines, their binary voltage signals to a frequency generator which will generate a signal having a frequency characteristic of such binary voltage signals. The frequency having a different value for every possible combination of binary signals from such trainlines. Transmitting such frequency signal back to the central processor unit and processing such frequency signal, in the central processor unit, to recover NT binary signals corresponding to such binary voltage signals on the trainlines in such group of trainlines.

Sensor Systems And Monitoring Systems

US Patent:
2013034, Dec 26, 2013
Filed:
Mar 14, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/829583
Inventors:
CRAIG MILLER - PITTSBURGH PA, US
MICHAEL STURDEVANT - CONCORD TOWNSHIP OH, US
WILLIAM KAIGLER - WEXFORD PA, US
International Classification:
G01N 25/56
US Classification:
73 2902, 374100, 374121
Abstract:
A method of monitoring a space to determine at least one change in state related to at least one activity includes analyzing an amount of water vapor in the air over time and relating a change in the amount of water vapor in the air over time to the at least one change in state. In a number of embodiments, the at least one change in state is related to a kitchen activity which causes a change in the amount of water vapor in the air. Changes in dew point over time may, for example, are determined. In a number of embodiments, changes in dew point over time are determined by measuring temperature and relative humidity over time and determining dew point from measured temperature and measured relative humidity. Changes in dew point over time may, for example, used to identify or distinguish the activity from a plurality of possible activities associated with the change in state. At least one of change in dew point, change in relative humidity and change in temperature over time may be used (either alone or in any combination thereof) to identify the activity associated with the change in state.

Apparatus For Feedback Of An Analog Signal Used To Monitor And/Or Control Dynamic Braking And Method Of Operating

US Patent:
5537014, Jul 16, 1996
Filed:
Nov 16, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/340232
Inventors:
Paul J. Kettle - Pittsburgh PA
Craig A. Miller - Pittsburgh PA
Vincent Ferri - Pittsburgh PA
Assignee:
Westinghouse Air Brake Company - Wilmerding PA
International Classification:
H02P 312
US Classification:
318375
Abstract:
A locomotive throttle controller having a CPU and output driver stage. Such CPU generates an analog voltage based on software logic and transmits to the output driver stage a signal indicative such analog voltage. Such output driver stage receives the signal from such CPU and uses it to provide an analog output voltage signal to a trainline which monitors and/or controls dynamic braking. The improvement therewith of an apparatus, for feeding back from such output driver stage to the CPU an analog signal indicating status of such trainline, comprising a device for obtaining a first analog voltage signal from a node which supplies current to such trainline. A voltage-divider for dividing the first analog voltage signal into a lower range to obtain a second analog voltage signal. A signal generating device connected to receive the second analog voltage signal and generate a third analog voltage signal. A voltage to current converter receives such third analog voltage signal and provides a regulated electrical current signal on an output terminal thereof.

Monitoring Systems, Devices And Methods

US Patent:
2012005, Mar 8, 2012
Filed:
Aug 31, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/222478
Inventors:
WILLIAM KAIGLER - WEXFORD PA, US
MICHAEL STURDEVANT - CONCORD TOWNSHIP OH, US
JERRY CONNELLY - PITTSBURGH PA, US
CRAIG MILLER - PITTSBURGH PA, US
International Classification:
G08B 23/00, G06F 19/00
US Classification:
3405731, 702 19
Abstract:
A system for monitoring wellness of a person, includes a local system in the vicinity of the person. The local system includes a plurality of sensor systems. Each of the plurality of sensor systems is associated with at least one monitored system to monitor changes in state of the monitored systems caused by activity or lack of activity of the person. The local system further includes a local data communication device in communicative connection with each of the plurality of sensor system to receive data from each of the plurality of sensor systems. The system further includes a remote system in communication with the local data communication device. The remote system includes a processing system to process data from the plurality of sensor system based upon predetermined rules. The local data communication device is programmed to transmit data to the remote system. The data transmitted to the remote system includes information on state history of the monitored systems. The data on state history may, for example, include at least a time of a change in from a first state to a second and data related to duration of the second state.

Appl. No.:
8/879454
Inventors:
Ralph Santoro - New Kensington PA
Paul J. Kettle - Pittsburgh PA
Vincent Ferri - Pittsburgh PA
Craig A. Miller - Pittsburgh PA
Assignee:
Westinghouse Air Brake Co. - Wilmerding PA
International Classification:
G05G 100
US Classification:

Digital Output Control Device And Method For Operating

US Patent:
5537285, Jul 16, 1996
Filed:
Nov 16, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/340235
Inventors:
Robert J. Jenets - North Huntingdon PA
Craig A. Miller - Pittsburgh PA
Assignee:
Westinghouse Air Brake Company - Wilmerding PA
International Classification:
H02H 300
US Classification:
361100
Abstract:
Apparatus and method are presented for a solid state relay module suitable for accepting low-level digital signals from a digital computer, and for providing on/off control of heavy electrical loads. The relay and its methods are intended for electrically hostile environments such that the relay may be exposed to spurious high voltages either on its input or on its load circuit. This relay and its methods are particularly intended for use in a locomotive throttle controller. The relay accepts low-level digital signals from a central processor computer in the throttle controller, and provide high-power digital signals to the trainlines which control the engine of the locomotive.
