Double-Tuned Output Circuit For High Power Devices Using Coaxial Cavity Resonators

US Patent:
4184123, Jan 15, 1980
Filed:
Sep 19, 1977
Appl. No.:
5/834268
Inventors:
Gerald P. Grill - Ephrata PA
Claude E. Doner - New Providence PA
Assignee:
RCA Corporation - New York NY
International Classification:
H03F 360, H01P 704
US Classification:
330 56
Abstract:
Coaxial, one-quarter wavelength resonant primary and secondary resonators are employed in conjunction with a tetrode tube to provide, for example, 55 Kw (kilowatts) of output power for VHF, high-band television broadcasting. Coupling between the two resonators is accomplished by connecting an inductance between the center conductors of the resonators. The effective inductance of this connection is varied (and thus the coupling of the resonator circuits is also varied) by the addition of a variable capacitor in series with the inductive connection.

Circumferentially Apertured Cylindrical Grid For Electron Tube

US Patent:
4295077, Oct 13, 1981
Filed:
Feb 14, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/121530
Inventors:
Don R. Carter - Lancaster PA
Claude E. Doner - New Providence PA
Fred G. Hammersand - East Petersburg PA
Joseph R. Tomcavage - Lancaster PA
Assignee:
RCA Corporation - New York NY
International Classification:
H01J 146, H01J 2110
US Classification:
313293
Abstract:
An improved high power electron tube has at least one grid electrode. The grid electrode is formed from a one piece cylindrical member, closed at one end, having an outside diameter, D. The cylindrical member has a plurality of arcuate, circumferentially elongated apertures extending therethrough. Each of the apertures has a length x and a width y wherein the length x is greater than width y, and wherein the length x is not greater than 0. 55 times the diameter, D, of the electrode. The width y, of each of the apertures is not greater than 0. 1 times the diameter D, of the electrode.

Double Tuned Input Circuit For Television Transmitter Amplifier

US Patent:
4070627, Jan 24, 1978
Filed:
Jun 3, 1976
Appl. No.:
5/692547
Inventors:
Joseph Richard Jasinski - Shillington PA
James Bruce Pickard - Quincy IL
Claude Edward Doner - New Providence PA
Assignee:
RCA Corporation - New York NY
International Classification:
H04B 104, H04N 514, H04N 538, H03F 360
US Classification:
325127
Abstract:
A substantially constant impedance is developed across the input terminals of a linear amplifier used in a very high frequency (VHF) low band television transmitter. The input circuit consists of lumped components arranged in a capacitively coupled double tuned configuration. A relatively long coaxial transmission line system is used to connect the input circuit to the terminals of the tube. The coaxial line system and input circuit tunes across the entire VHF low band of 54 to 88 MHz. An input voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) equal to or less than 1. 2:1 is achieved over each six MHz channel.

Tuning Means For A Transmisson Line Cavity

US Patent:
4451806, May 29, 1984
Filed:
Apr 30, 1982
Appl. No.:
6/373664
Inventors:
Claude E. Doner - New Providence PA
Assignee:
RCA Corporation - New York NY
International Classification:
H01P 704
US Classification:
333224
Abstract:
A transmission line cavity comprises an outer conductor and a center conductor. The cavity is in combination with a source, such as a power tube, for establishing electromagnetic waves within the cavity. The impedance of the center conductor may be changed, for example by changing the series inductance, to vary the resonant frequency of the cavity.
