Dec 7, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/568840
Inventors:
Virginia M. Chan - Fountain Valley CA
Stephen C. Muller - San Diego CA
Douglas M. Berger - Mission Viejo CA
Chuong D. Nguyen - San Jose CA
Assignee:
Rockwell Int'l. Corp. - Newport Beach CA
International Classification:
G06F 9445, G06F 946, G06F 15177, G06F 1314
US Classification:
364488
Abstract:
A method for configuring a program-controlled integrated circuit which contains default configuration data and includes input/output lines connectable to at least one external source of configuration data, the method including: a) determining whether an external source of configuration data is connected to the input/output lines; b) in response to a determination that an external source of configuration data is connected to the input/output lines, configuring the integrated circuit in accordance with that configuration data from that source; and c) in response to a determination that an external source of configuration data is not connected to the input/output lines, configuring the integrated circuit in accordance with the default configuration data. An application specific integrated circuit containing circuit units which must be configured in accordance with configuration data, the circuit including: external connection lines for connecting the circuit to an external source of configuration data; a first non-volatile memory portion storing default configuration data; and a second non-volatile memory portion storing a control program which is operative for selecting configuration data from among configuration data stored in a connected external source connected to the external connection lines and the stored default configuration data.

Verification Of Fan Operation

Verification Of Fan Operation

US Patent:
6054823, Apr 25, 2000
Filed:
May 19, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/081309
Inventors:
Jerry Collings - Santa Clara CA
Chuong Nguyen - San Jose CA
Joseph James Judkins - Cedar Park TX
Donald E. Alfano - Round Rock TX
Ali Tasdighi - San Jose CA
Quoi V. Huynh - San Jose CA
Sang T. Ngo - Cupertino CA
Assignee:
Telcom Semiconductor, Inc. - Mountain View CA
International Classification:
H01R 3946
US Classification:
318439
Abstract:
An apparatus for sensing the rotation of a brushless DC fan includes the fan and a sense/driver circuit and a capacitance. The sense/driver circuit is coupled to the fan to receive a sense input signal including a fluctuating electrical effect caused by fan commutation events. The sense/driver circuit processes the sense input signal to generate a sense output signal indicative of fan operation. The sense/driver circuit includes an integrated circuit. The integrated circuit includes a sense input pin, a ground return pin, a driver circuit, an integrated filter portion, a filter pin and a level detecting circuit. The capacitance is coupled to the filter pin to provide a filter with the integrated filter portion. The driver circuit includes a control terminal, a first current handling terminal coupled to the sense input pin and a second current handling terminal coupled to provide a ground return pat. The integrated filter portion includes a filter input coupled to at least one of the first and second current handling terminals of the driver circuit, and a filter output for providing a filter output signal to the level detecting circuit.

Multidrop Analog Signal Bus

Multidrop Analog Signal Bus

US Patent:
6122284, Sep 19, 2000
Filed:
Jul 7, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/889109
Inventors:
Ali Tasdighi - San Jose CA
Joseph J. Judkins - Cedar Park TX
Chuong Nguyen - San Jose CA
Donald E. Alfano - Round Rock TX
Assignee:
Telcom Semiconductor, Inc. - Mountain View CA
International Classification:
H04Q 1100
US Classification:
370438
Abstract:
In the preferred embodiment, the outputs of a plurality of analog signal generators are connected to a single wire (the analog bus). Each analog signal generator is addressable by a unique code provided to its respective address input terminals. A host controller selectively addresses only one of the analog signal generators such that an output of only one of the analog signal generators is applied to the analog bus at a time. In this manner, a single wire may be used to transmit a plurality of analog signals to a receiver. In one embodiment, the receiver is a MUX having an output connected to an ADC.

Low Voltage Temperature-To-Voltage Converter

Low Voltage Temperature-To-Voltage Converter

US Patent:
5923208, Jul 13, 1999
Filed:
Sep 12, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/713574
Inventors:
Ali Tasdighi - San Jose CA
Chuong Nguyen - San Jose CA
Assignee:
Telecom Semiconductor, Inc. - Mountain View CA
International Classification:
H01L 3500, H03K 342
US Classification:
327512
Abstract:
A temperature-to-voltage converter includes a first circuit for developing a signal having a positive temperature coefficient and a second circuit for developing a signal having a voltage offset and a negative temperature coefficient. The converter also includes an adder circuit configured to subtract the negative-temperature-coefficient signal from the positive-temperature-coefficient signal. The resulting difference signal is a low voltage that exhibits linear temperature-to-voltage conversion, allowing the converter to be powered by a low operating voltage.

Reference Voltage Based Equivalent Series Resistance (Esr) Emulation For Constant On-Time (Cot) Control Of Buck Regulators

Reference Voltage Based Equivalent Series Resistance (Esr) Emulation For Constant On-Time (Cot) Control Of Buck Regulators

US Patent:
8476882, Jul 2, 2013
Filed:
Sep 30, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/895555
Inventors:
Jia Luo - Fremont CA, US
Jon Cronk - Morgan Hill CA, US
Chuong Nguyen - San Jose CA, US
Assignee:
Exar Corporation - Fremont CA
International Classification:
G05F 1/40
US Classification:
323282
Abstract:
The present invention uses a reference voltage that varies within a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) cycle to generate the PWM signal. This allows for stability in the feedback of Constant On-Time (COT) control for buck controllers when low Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) capacitors are used as the output capacitor. The reference voltage is adjusted using features of a PWM cycle in a voltage mode without using external inductor current information.
